Incident mobility disability, parkinsonism, and mortality in community-dwelling older adults.
BackgroundMobility disability and parkinsonism are associated with decreased survival in older adults. This study examined the transition from no motor impairment to mobility disability and parkinsonism and their associations with death.Methods867 ...

Modulation of Peripheral Mast Cell and Brain Microglia Axis via Kinase Inhibition
Background/Objectives: Kinase inhibition is a hot therapeutic strategy for several human diseases, including neurodegeneration. Tyrosine kinase c-KIT activates peripheral mast cells, while other kinases including Abelson (c-Abl) promotes autophagy and ...

Total daily physical activity, brain pathologies, and parkinsonism in older adults.
ObjectiveWe examined the association of physical activity, postmortem brain pathologies, and parkinsonism proximate to death in older adults.MethodsWe studied the brains of 447 older decedents participating in a clinical-autopsy cohort study. We deployed

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Case Report: Progressive Asymmetric Parkinsonism Secondary to CADASIL Without Dementia
Parkinsonism is a rare phenotype of cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarction and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL), all of which involve cognitive decline. Normal cognition has not been reported in previous disease studies.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Neuron-specific enolase in the blood serum as a diagnostic marker of Parkinsonism
In the article there were presented data about the received results of immune-enzyme analysis of neuron-specific enolase among patients with Parkinsonism (52) in comparison with control group of patients with discirculatory encephalopathy without ...

Evaluation of Brain SPECT with 99mTc-TRODAT-1 in the Differential Diagnosis of Parkinsonism
Introduction. Brain SPECT with 99mTc-TRODAT-1 (SPECT-TRODAT) may be a useful tool in the differential diagnosis of Parkinsonism. Objective. To compare results of SPECT-TRODAT with clinical findings in patients with Parkinsonism. Methods. We evaluated 153
