Detoxification of mycotoxin patulin by the yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum [PDF]
Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by Penicillium species which often contaminates fruit and fruit-derived products. In this work the degradation of patulin by the yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum was studied and the toxicity of the degradation product was ...

Production of patulin by Micromycetes
Mycopathologia, 1989In the context of the screening for antifungal and antibacterial molecules among the Micromycetes, we investigated the ability of 850 strains grown in liquid medium to produce patulin. The compound was produced by 58 fungi, most of which had not been mentioned in the literature, especially Mucorales and Fungi Imperfecti.

Abstract The biosynthesis of the antibiotic patulin (II) from 6-methylsalicyclic acid (6-MSA) (I) in replacement cultures of Penicillium patulum has been examined with 2H and 14 C 3 H -labeled intermediates. Efficient utilization of m-cresol (IX), m-hydroxybenzyl alcohol (V), m-hydroxybenzaldehyde (XII), gentisaldehyde (VIII), and ...

The spasmolytic effect of patulin

Patulin in apple leather in Iran
Food Additives & Contaminants: Part B, 2013Apple leather is made by dehydration of cooked fruit into leathery sheets. Mould growth and patulin production can occur in damaged apples or when fallen fruit is collected for apple leather processing. A survey was conducted to determine levels and dietary intake of patulin from apple leather marketed in Iran.

Patulin mycotoxicosis in the Syrian hamster
Food and Cosmetics Toxicology, 1980Abstract Patulin, a mycotoxin produced by species of the genera Penicillium and Aspergillus, was administered to Syrian golden hamsters by oral, sc and ip routes. The greatest number of deaths occurred 13–24 hr after administration. The LD 50 values by the oral, sc and ip routes were respectively, 31·5, 23 and 10 mg/kg body weight. Gross alterations

Antitumoral activity of patulin and patulin-cysteine adducts.
Die Pharmazie, 1994A comparison between the cytotoxicity and the anti-tumoral activity of patulin and patulin-cysteine adducts has been conducted. In vitro assays using L 1210 and P 388 cells showed that patulin-cysteine adducts had less cytotoxic activity than patulin (IC50 was 4 fold of IC50 patulin).
