A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

The Peptide Synthesis. II. Use of the Phenol Resin for the Peptide Synthesis [PDF]
Abstract The phenol resin is useful as support of the solid phase peptide synthesis. Its use is particularly advantageous for the synthesis of the N-protected peptide fragments, and those which have the intramolecular disulfide bond, such as oxytocin.

B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Preparation of hexagonal GeO2 particles with particle size and crystallinity controlled by peptides, silk and silk-peptide chimeras [PDF]
We demonstrate the use of silk based proteins to control the particle/crystallite size during GeO2 formation, using a bio-mimetic approach at circumneutral pH and ambient temperature. Multicrystalline GeO2 was prepared from germanium tetraethoxide (TEOG)

An amalgamation of solid phase peptide synthesis and ribosomal peptide synthesis [PDF]
AbstractExpressed protein ligation (EPL) is a protein semisynthesis technique that allows the site‐specific introduction of unnatural amino acids and biophysical probes into proteins. In the present study, we illustrate the utility of the approach through the generation of two semisynthetic proteins bearing spectroscopic probes. Dihydrofolate reductase

Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Synthesis of hippuric acid in liver homogenate [PDF]
The synthesis of hippuric acid from benaoic acid and glycine resembles in several respects the synthesis of a peptide bond. A CONH group is formed, it is a to a carboxyl group, and the free energy of its formation is of the same order of magnitude.

Understanding Acid Lability of Cysteine Protecting Groups
Cys-disulfide bonds contribute to the stabilization of peptide and protein structures. The synthesis of these molecules requires a proper protection of Cys residues, which is crucial to prevent side-reactions and also to achieve the correct Cys ...
