Perilipin and adipophilin expression in sebaceous carcinoma and mimics
Human Pathology, 2013Although adipophilin has been reported to be a sensitive marker for sebaceous carcinoma, others have noted its expression in squamous cell carcinoma and a variety of noncutaneous tumors, suggesting that lipid droplet accumulation is a frequent feature of neoplastic cells.

The role of perilipin in human obesity and insulin resistance
Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2007More than 1.1 billion people worldwide are overweight or obese. We know that obesity is determined by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Although hundreds of obesity candidate genes have been identified through different metabolic pathways, the fundamental basis of obesity resides with excessive storage of triacylglycerides in adipose ...

Characterization of a Splice Variant of Perilipin 5
The FASEB Journal, 2020Lipid storage provides energy stores for the body in times of increased oxidative requirements, such as fasting or exercise, but when the balance of lipid storage and mobilization is disrupted human health suffers. Implications for increased lipid storage include risk factors for developing type II diabetes mellitus and non‐alcoholic fatty liver ...

Human Congenital Perilipin Deficiency and Insulin Resistance
2013Lipid droplets (LDs) can form in all eukaryotic cells, but white adipocytes are uniquely adapted to store energy as neutral lipid within a large unilocular LD. Non-esterified fatty acids can then be released from the LD store by lipases for use in oxidative tissues.

Detection of a Perilipin‐5 Splice Variant
The FASEB Journal, 2017Alternative splicing occurs throughout the human genome, leading to multiple proteins from a single gene. The resulting proteins can be nearly identical or vastly different in how they function. The perilipins are a family of lipid droplet associated proteins that among other functions regulate interaction of lipases with their substrates.

Evidence of a Perilipin‐5 Splice Variant
The FASEB Journal, 2016The large diversity of proteins found within animals are made possible through alternative splicing of mRNA. This has been shown to occur within the perilipin family of lipid storage droplet proteins in both perilipins 1 and 3. In the course of our studies on perilipin 5, we observed a signal on an immunoblot corresponding to an approximately 35 kDa ...

Insights into the cellular trafficking of perilipin 5
The FASEB Journal, 2017Perilipins are a family of proteins found on lipid storage droplets that play a role in the regulation and metabolism of cellular neutral lipid. Perilipin 5 has also been found localized elsewhere in the cell including the cytoplasm, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and more recently, the nucleus.

[Lipid Droplets and Perilipins in Cardiovascular Diseases].
Zhongguo yi xue ke xue yuan xue bao. Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae, 2022Lipid droplet (LD) are multifunctional organelles which take part into intracellular lipid metabolism, mainly consisting of a neutral lipid core,a single-layer phospholipid shell, and LD-related protein (LRP).LRP on the shell can regulate the storage, transport, and metabolism of lipid. The imbalance of LD regulation could cause the abnormality of lipid ...
