Shaping cups into phagosomes and macropinosomes [PDF]
The ingestion of particles or cells by phagocytosis and of fluids by macropinocytosis requires the formation of large endocytic vacuolar compartments inside cells by the organized movements of membranes and the actin cytoskeleton. Fc-receptor-mediated phagocytosis is guided by the zipper-like progression of local, receptor-initiated responses that ...

The Paediatric BCG Vaccine Century: From Historical Success to Future Innovations
ABSTRACT Aim The tuberculosis (TB) vaccine, Bacille‐Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), protects infants against severe forms of primary TB. Yet, it does not protect against pulmonary reactivation TB in adults. Methods A literature review was conducted between 1st January and 28th February 2025 using PubMed, Google Scholar and reports of the World Health ...

Molecular Mechanisms of Phagosome Formation
ABSTRACTPhagocytosis refers to the active process that allows cells to take up large particulate material upon binding to surface receptors. The discovery of phagocytosis in 1883 by Elie Metchnikoff, leading to the concept that specialized cells are implicated in the defense against microbes, was one of the starting points of the field of immunology ...

Variability in intracellular localization of D‐amino acid oxidase in choroid plexus epithelial cells
D‐amino acid oxidase (DAO) in choroid plexus epithelial cells (CPECs) shows vesicle‐like localization by histological and super‐resolution analyses. DAO colocalizes with peroxisomal, Golgi, endosomal, lysosomal, autophagosomal, and exosomal markers, indicating diverse subcellular distribution. This suggests DAO is transported within CPECs to metabolize

VitBAg antigen presentation is promoted through a cytosolic pathway that reaches ligand‐receptive MR1 to present to MAIT cells, like the riboflavin transport pathway. Riboflavin solute carrier transporters can promote this MR1 presentation, but they are not essential for this role, suggesting redundant pathways to uptake VitBAg.

Calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) crystals cause changes in the secretion of 29 proteins from neutrophil‐like cells, including those involved in neutrophil immune activation and intracellular metabolic adaptation. The neutrophil secreted proteins (secretome) also inhibit calcium oxalate crystallisation and crystal growth, but promote crystal ...

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Periodontitis
Oxidative stress is involved in multiple chemical reactions that take place in different intracellular organelles: mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, autophagy, and aging, and can be influenced by exogenous factors: nutrition, physical activity, psychological status, environmental conditions, microbiome, and drugs.

Environmental Effects on Reactive Oxygen Species Detection—Learning from the Phagosome
International audienceAbstract Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the phagosome by the NADPH oxidase is critical for mammalian immune defense against microbial infections and phosphoinositides are important regulators in this process ...

Host tissue cues including temperature, oxygen, and iron availability regulate expression of the Yersinia type III secretion system (T3SS) master regulator LcrF. We found that CpxR inhibits LcrF through an indirect, multi‐factorial mechanism and identified the osmolarity‐sensing OmpR/EnvZ system as an additional regulator of LcrF, highlighting ...
