Thermal inactivation of pichinde virus
Journal of Virological Methods, 1985Detailed information regarding the kinetics of thermal inactivation of Pichinde, an arenavirus, is presented. Inactivation of virus infectivity proceeded as a first order reaction over the temperature range 22-53 degrees C. The determined inactivation rates analysed as a function of absolute temperature revealed that two different reactions were ...

Strandedness of Pichinde virus RNA
Journal of Virology, 1977The Pichinde virus RNA did not possess the following characteristics of eucaryotic mRNA: polyadenylic acid sequence, capped methylated structure, and ability to direct protein synthesis in vitro. Polysomal RNA extracted from cells infected with Pichinde virus reannealed with 32P-labeled virus RNA, protecting about 60% of the latter against RNase ...

Archives of Virology, 1994
Syrian hamsters, strain MHA/Lak, are susceptible to intraperitoneal infection with Pichinde virus and die from an overwhelming viremia. We have studied the ability of a vaccinia-Pichinde recombinant virus expressing amino acids 51-561 of the viral nucleoprotein (VVNP51-561) to protect from lethal Pichinde virus infection.

Characterization of temperature-sensitive mutants of Pichinde virus
Journal of Virology, 1988The synthesis of viral proteins and S RNAs in cells infected with 12 temperature-sensitive (ts) mutants of Pichinde virus was characterized. The mutants could be divided into five groups on the basis of the patterns of radiolabeled proteins immunoprecipitated from infected-cell lysates.

Pichinde virus L and S RNAs contain unique sequences
Journal of Virology, 1981Using oligodeoxyribonucleotides produced by limited DNase I digestion of calf thymus DNA as a primer, we synthesized complementary DNA (cDNA) from the L and the S RNAs of Pichinde virus. The reaction conditions for in vitro cDNA synthesis were optimized to allow transcription of about 90% of either L or S RNA.

Characterization of Pichinde virus infection of cells of the monocytic lineage
Journal of Virology, 1991To establish a model of viral infection of monocytes, we examined infection of human cells and cell lines of the monocytic series with the arenavirus Pichinde virus. We demonstrate for the first time that human peripheral blood monocytes are susceptible to Pichinde virus infection, as shown by immunoprecipatation of virus-specific polypeptides from ...

Immune recognition of tumor cells in mice infected with Pichinde virus
Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, 1984Pichinde virus (PV), a member of the Arenaviridae family, protects mice from a lethal inoculation with the sarcoma 180 (S180) tumor cell line. Virus replication, which is required for protection, occurs primarily in the spleen and tumor. During the first 4 days, elevated natural killer (NK) cell activity parallels an increase in serum interferon in PV ...

Biophysical and Biochemical Studies of Pichinde Virus
1973Pichinde virus, a member of the arenavirus group, was found to contain single-stranded RNA. The RNA consisted of 5 discernible components corresponding to 31S, 28S, 22S, 18S and 4 to 6S. The 28S and 18S RNA’s appeared to be of host cell origin and the 4 to 6S RNA was probably from the same source.

Characterization of polypeptides immunoprecipitable from Pichinde virus-infected BHK-21 cells
Journal of Virology, 1981Using hamster anti-Pichinde virus serum, we immunoprecipitated polypeptides from BHK-21 cells infected with Pichinde virus. Seven immunoprecipitable polypeptides exhibited a time- and multiplicity of infection-dependent appearance when the cultures were pulse-labeled with L-[35S]methionine for 1 h.

Susceptibility to Fatal Pichinde Virus Infection in the Syrian Hamster
1981The data presented in this paper suggest that the susceptible MHA hamster strain possesses a spleen target cell for Pichinde virus replication which is minimally expressed in the resistant strain. This target cell co-purifies with cells mediating NK activity, raising the possibility that the NK cell itself may be the additional target cell for Pichinde
