Synthesis of virus-specific polypeptides and genomic RNA during the replicative cycle of Pichinde virus [PDF]
A stock of plaque-purified Pichinde virus, prepared under conditions designed to limit the amounts of defective interfering virus, was used to infect BHK cells. At daily intervals after infection, cells were examined for infectious and radiolabeled virus particle production and for the synthesis of virus-specific polypeptides.

Expression and Purification of Z Protein from Junín Virus
Arenaviridae comprises 23 recognized virus species with a bipartite ssRNA genome and an ambisense coding strategy. The virions are enveloped and include nonequimolar amounts of each genomic RNA species, designated L and S, coding for four ORFs (N, GPC, L, and Z).

A Systems Biology Starter Kit for Arenaviruses
Systems biology approaches in virology aim to integrate viral and host biological networks, and thus model the infection process. The growing availability of high-throughput “-omics” techniques and datasets, as well as the ever ...

Tumor Necrosis Factor and the Pathogenesis of Pichinde Virus Infection in Guinea Pigs [PDF]
Pichinde virus (PIC) is a reticuloendothelial arenavirus of the New World tropics. A guinea pig passage–adapted strain of this virus (adPIC) is uniformly lethal for inbred guinea pigs, while the related, prototype strain (PIC3739) has attenuated virulence.

Therapeutic options for human papillomavirus‐positive tonsil and base of tongue cancer
Abstract The incidences of human papillomavirus‐positive (HPV+) tonsillar and base tongue squamous cell carcinomas (TSCC and BOTSCC) have increased in recent decades. Notably, HPV+ TSCC and BOTSCC have a significantly better prognosis than their HPV‐negative counterparts when treated with current surgical options, radiotherapy, or intensified ...

Viral Infection: A Potent Barrier to Transplantation Tolerance
Transplantation of allogeneic organs has proven to be an effective therapeutic for a large variety of disease states, but the chronic immunosuppression that is required for organ allograft survival increases the risk for infection and neoplasia and has direct organ toxicity.

Use of recombinant adenovirus vectored consensus IFN-α to avert severe arenavirus infection.
Several arenaviruses can cause viral hemorrhagic fever, a severe disease with case-fatality rates in hospitalized individuals ranging from 15-30%. Because of limited prophylaxis and treatment options, new medical countermeasures are needed for these ...

Role of natural killer cells in Pichinde virus infection of Syrian hamsters [PDF]
Pichinde virus produced a fatal infection in adult MHA hamsters but not LSH hamsters after intraperitoneal inoculation. After footpad inoculation, an 8-day swelling response was observed in LSH but not MHA hamsters; however, both strains survived infection by this route.
