Assessment of Platelet Storage Lesions, Viability, and Function in Canine Platelet Concentrate Units Stored at 4°C for 14 Days

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess platelet function, storage lesion development, and bacterial contamination in canine platelet concentrate (PC) units stored at 4°C for 14 days. Design Prospective, in vitro experimental study. Setting University teaching hospital. Animals Six units of canine PC.

Studies of platelet antibodies at MacKay Memorial Hospital in Taiwan: Methods, case reviews and a possible case of post‐transfusion purpura

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Platelet antibody screening and identification are crucial and challenging. MacKay Memorial Hospital has been dedicated to this for nearly four decades. We reviewed our experience with platelet antibody detection methods and prevalence, and presented a possible case of post‐transfusion purpura caused by anti‐CD36 ...

Evaluation of the platelet cross-matching in oncology patients

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Transfusion Medicine, 2016
Context: Platelet transfusion is an essential part of managing cancer. Refractoriness to platelet transfusion poses great challenge in the treatment of thrombocytopenic patients.

Investigating human platelet antigens and antibodies in pregnancy: An 11‐year experience from a Canadian reference laboratory

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Foetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopaenia (FNAIT) is a potentially severe immune‐mediated condition that is believed to be under‐identified in the Canadian population. The Canadian Blood Services National Platelet Immunology Reference Laboratory (NPIRL) serves as a centralized referral laboratory for FNAIT ...

Adjunctive Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Refractory Adult‐Onset Still's Disease Complicated by Secondary Macrophage Activation Syndrome: A Single‐Center Experience

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, Volume 30, Issue 3, Page 389-396, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adult‐onset Still's disease (AOSD) complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) carries substantial mortality. The role of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) remains uncertain. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients with AOSD‐MAS treated with TPE at a single‐center.

Differences in Perspectives and Policies Regarding End‐of‐Life Care Between Hematologists and Gastroenterologists

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with hematologic malignancies often receive aggressive treatment until the terminal phase and transition to end‐of‐life (EOL) care less frequently than those with solid tumors. A 2015 survey compared hematologists' and solid tumor‐oncologists' attitudes toward EOL care, revealing differences.

Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Mutations in Cancer: From Bench to Bedside Applications

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Mutant isocitrate dehydrogenase affects multiple cancer types. Alterations in IDH1 and IDH2 result in abnormal enzyme activity, leading to the overproduction of D‐2‐hydroxyglutarate (D‐2HG). This metabolite disrupts cellular metabolism and epigenetic regulation, driving cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis.

Improved bilirubin reduction with therapeutic plasma exchange and haemoperfusion in a dog with immune‐mediated haemolytic anaemia

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 6‐year‐old spayed female Golden Retriever mix was diagnosed with immune‐mediated haemolytic anaemia. Initial treatments included immunosuppression and blood transfusions. With acute mentation decline and rapid increase in serum bilirubin, therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) was initiated.

Distribution for platelet antibody in patients with immune-mediated platelet transfusion refractoriness

open access: yesHematology
Objectives: HLA Class I, HPA (Human platelet antigen), CD36 allo/isoantibodies, and platelet glycoprotein autoantibodies are the primary causes of immune-mediated platelet transfusion refractoriness (iPTR).
