When Public Health Becomes the Weapon: Current and Prospective Consequences of the Genocide in Gaza

open access: yesWorld Medical &Health Policy, Volume 18, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Catastrophic humanitarian conditions during the 2023–2025 genocide in Gaza have caused a public health crisis of exceptional magnitude. This article summarizes key short‐ and long‐term health consequences for Gaza's civilian population and outlines priorities for recovery.

Routine administration of oral polio vaccine in a subtropical area. Factors possibly influencing sero-conversion rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Poliomyelitis is an important problem of public health in warm-climate countries. Studies of serological responses to vaccination in these countries have given conflicting results but in many investigations the rates have been considerably less than in ...

Antiviral and Antibacterial Polyurethanes of Various Modalities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We have prepared and characterized a new polyurethane-based antimicrobial material, N,N-dodecyl,methyl-polyurethane (Quat-12-PU). It exhibits strong antiviral and antibacterial activities when coated (as an organic solution or an aqueous nanosuspension ...

Case of Poliomyelitis Caused by Significantly Diverged Derivative of the Poliovirus Type 3 Vaccine Sabin Strain Circulating in the Orphanage

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Significantly divergent polioviruses (VDPV) derived from the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) from Sabin strains, like wild polioviruses, are capable of prolonged transmission and neuropathology. This is mainly shown for VDPV type 2.

Hepatitis B Virus, Pneumococcal, Diphtheria, and Tetanus Vaccination Responses in Compensated Cirrhosis

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Cirrhosis favours infections that can lead to liver decompensation and death. Some of these infections can be prevented by vaccination. This study aimed to evaluate the immune response after HBV, pneumococcal, diphtheria, and tetanus vaccination in cirrhotic patients.

Evolution and circulation of type-2 vaccine-derived polioviruses in Nad Ali district of Southern Afghanistan during June 2009-February 2011.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Oral polio vaccine has been used successfully as a powerful tool to control the spread of wild polioviruses throughout the world; however, during replication in under immunized children, some vaccine viruses revert and acquire the neurovirulent ...

Limited duration of vaccine poliovirus and other enterovirus excretion among human immunodeficiency virus infected children in Kenya

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2009
Background Immunodeficient persons with persistent vaccine-related poliovirus infection may serve as a potential reservoir for reintroduction of polioviruses after wild poliovirus eradication, posing a risk of their further circulation in inadequately ...

In-Vitro Inactivation of Sabin-Polioviruses for Development of Safe and Effective Polio Vaccine

open access: yesVaccines, 2020
After years of global collaboration; we are steps away from a polio-free world. However, the currently conventional inactivated polio vaccine (cIPV) is suboptimal for the post eradication era.

Engineering the 3′‐UTR of Tobacco Vein Mottling Virus to Confer Cross‐Protection Against Potyviruses

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 5, May 2026.
The 3′‐untranslated region (3′‐UTR) and its secondary structure of virus genomic RNA of tobacco vein mottling virus (TVMV) are important in symptoms attenuation, which can be engineered for cross‐protection against further viral infection. We provide experimental evidence that supports the roles of 3′‐UTR in potyvirus infection.

Epidemiology and genetic characterization of orphan polioviruses in Africa, 2022–2024: Unmasking silent transmission and implications for eradication

open access: yesVaccine: X
Background: The continued detection of orphan polioviruses, defined by ≥ 1.5 % nucleotide divergence in the VP1-coding region of the virus compared with the VP1 of previous circulating isolates, presents a significant challenge to polio eradication ...
