Metabolomic profiling of polymyxin-B in combination with meropenem and sulbactam against multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Empirical therapies using polymyxins combined with other antibiotics are recommended in the treatment of Acinetobacter baumannii infections. In the present study, the synergistic activities of polymyxin-B, meropenem, and sulbactam as combination therapy ...

Effect of polymyxin B-containing regimens on renal function for the treatment of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriacea mediastinitis

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
A retrospective cohort study, were evaluated: polymyxin B plus aminoglycosides or polymyxin B plus other antibiotics. Any degree of acute kidney injury occurred in 26 (86.6%) patients.

In Vitro and In Vivo Synergism of Fosfomycin in Combination with Meropenem or Polymyxin B against KPC-2-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Clinical Isolates

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Fosfomycin disodium is a potential therapeutic option to manage difficult-to-treat infections, especially when combined with other antimicrobials. In this study, we evaluated the activity of fosfomycin in combination with meropenem or polymyxin B against

The site of the neuromuscular block produced by polymyxin B and rolitetracycline [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The site of neuromuscular blockade induced by polymyxin B and rolitetracycline was studied on isolated nerve and nerve–muscle preparations. Polymyxin B (1.8 × 10−4 M) was equipotent to lidocaine as a local anaesthetic on a frog desheathed nerve ...

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Polymyxin B interacts with the Psl extracellular matrix. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Images of WT PAO1, PA14, ΔpslAB, PBAD-psl, and CF127 biofilms subjected to 5 µg/ml fluorescent polymyxin B after 2 hours of exposure. Polymyxin B accumulates in the extracellular material of PBAD-psl and is less pronounced in WT PAO1 biofilms ...

Multi‐Targeting Carnosic Acid Kills Drug‐Resistant Helicobacter pylori With Narrow‐Spectrum Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Carnosic acid selectively eradicates drug‐resistant Helicobacter pylori through a multi‐targeted mechanism involving urease inhibition, membrane disruption, and biofilm eradication. It exhibits no detectable resistance, potent in vivo efficacy, and minimal impact on gut microbiota, positioning it as a promising narrow‐spectrum lead compound against ...

Proteomic Response Revealed Signaling Pathways Involving in the Mechanism of Polymyxin B-Induced Melanogenesis

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Polymyxin B is a last-line antibiotic for extensively resistant Gram-negative bacterial infection. Skin hyperpigmentation is a serious side effect induced by polymyxin B that severely compromises the psychological health and compliance of patients.

Identification of a Nonribosomal Peptide Analog With Activity Against Multiple Gram‐Positive Bacteria via a Synthetic Bioinformatic Natural Product Discovery Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The genome of Rhodococcus erythropolis D‐1 was analyzed by bioinformatic tools to mine a novel nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) gene cluster. A nonribosomal peptide analog ZURJC5 associated with the NRPS was chemically synthesized. Through structure‐activity relationship studies, ZURJC28 was ultimately obtained and showed antibacterial activity ...
