Unmasking the Aliphatic Repertoire: New Polyunsaturated Metabolites in Bupleurum falcatum sensu lato Provide Chemotaxonomic Insights

open access: yesPlants
Bupleurum falcatum (Apiaceae) sensu lato includes multiple infraspecific taxa with longstanding taxonomic ambiguities, often resulting from incomplete morphological and chemical characterizations.

Plasma fatty acids and [13C]linoleic acid metabolism in preterm infants fed a formula with medium-chain triglycerides

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2003
Most preterm infant formulas contain medium-chain triacylglycerols (M80), but the effects of MCT on polyunsaturated fatty acid status and metabolism are controversial. Thus, we studied the effects of MCT on linoleic acid metabolism using stable isotopes.

Consumption of a high n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid diet during gradual mild physiological stress in rats.

open access: yes, 2015
n-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3PUFAs) may be beneficial for anxiety and depression under stressful conditions. Studies however, typically utilise physical or sudden physiological stress, while gradual physiological stress is also relevant to human ...

Metabolomics of dietary fatty acid restriction in patients with phenylketonuria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) have to follow a lifelong phenylalanine restricted diet. This type of diet markedly reduces the intake of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids especially long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA).

Effects of saturated and polyunsaturated fat diets on the chemical composition and metabolism of low density lipoproteins in man.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1980
This study examined the effects of dietary saturated and polyunsaturated fat on the chemical composition and metabolism of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in eight normal male subjects.

Influence of FADS polymorphisms on tracking of serum glycerophospholipid fatty acid concentrations and percentage composition in children. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tracking of fatty acid (FA) contribution to plasma or serum lipids over time was shown in children and adults. However, the potential role of FADS gene variants has not been investigated.

Long-chain n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and risk of atrial fibrillation: Results from a Danish cohort study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BackgroundStudies of the relation between polyunsaturated fatty acids and risk of atrial fibrillation have been inconclusive. The risk of atrial fibrillation may depend on the interaction between n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids as both types of ...

Three-year tracking of fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids in healthy children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Objectives: The fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids reflects the dietary fatty acid intake as well as endogenous turnover. We aimed at investigating the potential tracking of plasma phospholipid fatty acid composition in children that ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids reduces post-operative atrial fibrillation incidence in patients undergoing “on-pump” coronary artery bypass graft surgery

open access: yesMonaldi Archives for Chest Disease, 2015
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative and postoperative therapy with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in reducing the incidence of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
