Sample Preparation and Separation of Lignans by Liquid Chromatography

open access: yesJournal of Separation Science, Volume 49, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Lignans are important phytochemicals found mostly in the resins of coniferous trees, but are also introduced into human diets through foods such as sesame seeds and extra‐virgin olive oil. They are pharmacologically interesting mainly because of their antioxidant activities, and they have also been shown to have cytotoxic and antimicrobial ...

Pomegranate ellagitannins inhibit α-glucosidase activity in vitro and reduce starch digestibility under simulated gastro-intestinal conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pomegranate extract was tested for its ability to inhibit α-amylase and α-glucosidase activity. Pomegranate extract strongly inhibited rat intestinal α-glucosidase in vitro whereas it was a weak inhibitor of porcine α-amylase. The inhibitory activity was

An Estrogen-like Activity in Pomegranate Juice.

open access: yesNIPPON SHOKUHIN KAGAKU KOGAKU KAISHI, 2001
We examined an estrogen-like activity in the pomegranate (Punica granatum) juice. The juice or its methanol eluate from C18 cartridge competed with 17β-estradiol for estrogen receptor (ER) binding and also stimulated proliferation of human ER-positive cell (MCF-7) in vitro.

Extracts From Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) Peel via Microwave‐Assisted and Conventional Extractions: Evaluation of Nosema Infection and Toxicity in Honey Bees

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Conventional and microwave‐assisted extractions of grapefruit peels were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) based on TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity (DPPH). The phytochemical profiles of the two optimum extracts were characterized via HPLC before evaluating their acute and chronic toxicity, as well as their effects on honey bee (Apis
