A unique kelch domain phosphatase in plasmodium regulates ookinete morphology, motility and invasion [PDF]
Signalling through post-translational modification (PTM) of proteins is a process central to cell homeostasis, development and responses to external stimuli.

Protein Phosphatase 1 δ is Associated with Focal Adhesions [PDF]
In all mammalian cells protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) exists in three isoforms, defined as alpha, gamma 1 and delta. Immunofluorescence studies with isoform-specific antibodies indicated that delta, but not alpha or gamma 1, is enriched at focal adhesions in HeLa cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and keratinocytes.

In human and experimental heart failure, the activity of the type 1 phosphatase is significantly increased, associated with dephosphorylation of phospholamban, inhibition of the sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca(2+) transport ATPase (SERCA2a) and depressed

Liposomal C6 Ceramide Activates Protein Phosphatase 1 to Inhibit Melanoma Cells. [PDF]
Melanoma is one common skin cancer. In the present study, the potential anti-melanoma activity by a liposomal C6 ceramide was tested in vitro. We showed that the liposomal C6 (ceramide) was cytotoxic and anti-proliferative against a panel of human ...

Identification of a non-purple tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase: An evolutionary link to Ser/Thr protein phosphatases? [PDF]
Background: Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatases (TRAcPs), also known as purple acid phosphatases (PAPs), are a family of binuclear metallohydrolases that have been identified in plants, animals and fungi. The human enzyme is a major histochemical marker

Background One of the major cellular serine/threonine protein phosphatases is protein phosphatase type 1 (PP1). Studies employing many eukaryotic systems all point to a crucial role for PP1 activity in controlling cell cycle progression.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Protein phosphatase-1α interacts with and dephosphorylates polycystin-1.
Polycystin signaling is likely to be regulated by phosphorylation. While a number of potential protein kinases and their target phosphorylation sites on polycystin-1 have been identified, the corresponding phosphatases have not been extensively studied ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative
