Engineering Extracellular Vesicle Production Through Magnetic Ion Channel Activation for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic Ion Channel Activation (MICA) enables remote stimulation of mechanosensitive ion channels using functionalised magnetic nanoparticles, enhancing extracellular vesicle (EV) biogenesis is pre‐osteoblasts. MICA desrived EVs exhibit typical nano‐vesicular characteristics but display superior pro‐osteogeneic activity, promoting mesenchymal stem ...

Profiling invasive Plasmodium falciparum merozoites using an integrated omics approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The symptoms of malaria are brought about by blood-stage parasites, which are established when merozoites invade human erythrocytes. Our understanding of the molecular events that underpin erythrocyte invasion remains hampered by the short-period of time

PSMB4: a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for depression, perspective from integration analysis of depression GWAS data and human plasma proteome

open access: yesTranslational Psychiatry
Depression is a common and severe mental disorder that affects more than 300 million people worldwide. While it is known to have a moderate genetic component, identifying specific genes that contribute to the disorder has been challenging.

Mapping Nanoscale Protein‐Corona Kinetics of DoE‐Optimized Perfluorocarbon Encapsulated‐PLGA Nanoparticles by In Situ, Time‐Resolved Synchrotron SAXS

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐phase workflow (OFAT screening followed by central composite design) maps how processing variables tune PFCE‐PLGA nanoparticle size, dispersity, surface charge, loading, and 19F‐MRI signal. In situ, time‐resolved synchrotron SAXS tracks albumin‐corona growth on intact dispersions and reveals PFCE‐dependent adsorption pathways.

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...
