Reconfiguring biofortification strategies to transform food systems and address micronutrient deficiency of the 21st century

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how to make staple foods and horticultural crops more nutritious, including how artificial intelligence‐based screening of gene banks helps deploy nutritionally rich germplasm into breeding. Genome editing can help develop crops richer in minerals, vitamins, and health‐promoting compounds, supporting healthier diets and more ...

Pteridines in the Control of Pigmentation

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1997
The influence of UVB irradiation on the metabolic pathway for the production of L-tyrosine from L-phenylalanine in the human epidermis has been examined in 12 healthy volunteers with photo skin types I-VI (Fitzpatrick classification). This metabolic pathway involves the induction of GTP-cyclohydrolase 1 (GTP-CH-1), the rate-limiting enzyme for de novo ...

The diversity-oriented synthesis of pteridines—achievements and potential for development

open access: yes, 2013
The importance of pteridines in the key cofactors, tetrahydrofolate and tetrahydrobiopterin, has encouraged the development of the chemistry and chemical biology of pteridines.

Chemotherapy of malaria. Part VIII. Synthesis of uracils, thiouracils, pteridines and thiopteridines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1953
Twenty-two pteridines of formula (I) and twenty-one thiopteridines of formula (II) have been synthesisedvia 4-aminouracils and 4:5-diaminouracils for assessing their antimalarial and antibacterial ...

Capture‐SELEX of DNA Aptamers for Highly Selective Binding of Folate

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 10, 27 May 2026.
Using capture‐SELEX, a DNA aptamer with sub‐micromolar affinity for folate was isolated, showing excellent selectivity. Using this aptamer, a light‐up fluorescent biosensor was developed for folate detection. Folate (vitamin B9) is an essential micronutrient for human health, particularly during pregnancy.

Daily Variation and Effect of Dietary Folate on Urinary Pteridines

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: Urinary pteridines are putative molecular biomarkers for noninvasive cancer screening and prognostication. Central to their translational biomarker development is the need to understand the sources and extent of their non-epidemiological ...

Novel Insights Into the Association Between Parkinson's Disease and Constipation: Role of SHMT2 as a Promising Biomarker

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study integrated bioinformatics analysis, cellular models, and PD/constipation mouse models to identify SHMT2 as a key shared biomarker linking Parkinson's disease and constipation. SHMT2 upregulation was validated in dopaminergic neurons and the enteric nervous system, highlighting its potential role in gut–brain axis dysfunction.

Colour Morphs as Alternative Solutions to the Trade‐Off Predicted by the Immuno‐Competence Handicap Hypothesis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, Volume 21, Issue 3, Page 639-651, May 2026.
In this study, we tested whether white and yellow morphs of the common wall lizard (Podarcis muralis) adopt alternative strategies shaped by the immuno‐competence handicap hypotheses (ICHH). We found that testosterone‐induced immune suppression was stronger in white males, while aggression decreased in both morphs.

Alloxazine derivatives as multifunctional agents for photodynamic therapy, cancer cell imaging, and cell proliferation inhibition

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, Volume 102, Issue 3, Page 589-604, May/June 2026.
Alloxazine photosensitizers, molecularly engineered through sugar conjugation and methoxy substitution to enhance solubility, photodynamic potency, and fluorescence, enable image‐guided photodynamic therapy while inhibiting cancer cell growth in the absence of photoactivation.
