Inborn Errors of Purine Salvage and Catabolism

open access: yesMetabolites, 2023
Cellular purine nucleotides derive mainly from de novo synthesis or nucleic acid turnover and, only marginally, from dietary intake. They are subjected to catabolism, eventually forming uric acid in humans, while bases and nucleosides may be converted ...

Purine metabolism regulates Vibrio splendidus persistence associated with protein aggresome formation and intracellular tetracycline efflux

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
A small subpopulation of Vibrio splendidus AJ01 that was exposed to tetracycline at 10 times the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) still survived, named tetracycline-induced persister cells in our previous work.

DISORDERS OF PURIN METABOLISM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1912
The old time term "uric acid diathesis" was an elastic expression, embracing such different conditions as gout, chronic rheumatism, uratic calculus, obesity and certain nephritides. In the light of more recent knowledge, the meaning of the term has been gradually narrowed until at the present time it includes only those diseases or clinical syndromes ...

Purine Metabolism and Rett Syndrome

open access: yesPediatric Neurology Briefs, 1996
Levels of purine and pyridine nucleotides and their metabolites were determined in erythrocytes and plasma of 31 Rett pattients and 17 age-matched controls at the Departments of Molecular Biology and Child Psychiatry, University of Siena, Children’s ...

Purine nucleotide metabolism response to drought stress in rice

open access: yesPlant growth regulation (Print)
Purine metabolism is crucial for plants not only because they are critical biochemical compounds themselves but also because they are involved in the regulation of cellular enzymatic reactions, influencing growth, development, and reproduction.

Computer simulation of purine metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1984
A computer model of purine metabolism, including catabolism, salvage pathways and interconversion among nucleotides, is given. Steady‐state rate equations corresponding to metabolic enzymes are written based on information from the literature about their kinetic behaviour.

Rhein modulates host purine metabolism in intestine through gut microbiota and ameliorates experimental colitis

open access: yesTheranostics, 2020
Background: Gut microbiota, which plays a crucial role in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), might have therapeutic benefits for ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Targeting gut microbiota represents a new treatment strategy for IBD patients.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
