Purine metabolism in the development of osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a common bone metabolic disease in postmenopausal women, diabetic patients and obese patients and is characterized by an imbalance in bone formation and resorption. Current studies have conducted in-depth research on these groups and revealed their respective pathogenesis and treatment measures.

ZZE-Configuration of chromophore ß-153 in C-phycocyanin from Mastigocladus laminosus [PDF]
The photochemistry of C-phycocyanin has been studied after denaturation in the dark. It shows an irreversible reaction which has characteristics of a Ζ,Ζ,Ε- to Z,Z,Z-isomerization of dihydrobilins. Its amplitude depends on the reaction conditions, with

Computer simulation of purine metabolism [PDF]
A computer model of purine metabolism, including catabolism, salvage pathways and interconversion among nucleotides, is given. Steady‐state rate equations corresponding to metabolic enzymes are written based on information from the literature about their kinetic behaviour.

Purine metabolism promotes radioresistance and is a therapeutic target in glioblastoma
Profound intratumoral genomic heterogeneity has limited the ability of targeted therapies to overcome therapy resistance in glioblastoma. We have defined purine metabolism as a key mediator of DNA repair and radiation resistance in glioblastoma.

A circular network of purine metabolism as coregulators of dilated cardiomyopathy
Background The crosstalk of purine biosynthesis and metabolism exists to balance the cell energy production, proliferation, survival and cytoplasmic environment stability, but disorganized mechanics of with respect to developing heart failure (HF) is ...

Reduced levels of dopamine and altered metabolism in brains of HPRT knock-out rats: a new rodent model of Lesch-Nyhan Disease [PDF]
Lesch-Nyhan disease (LND) is a severe neurological disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the gene encoding hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT), an enzyme required for efficient recycling of purine nucleotides.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Purine synthesis promotes maintenance of brain tumor initiating cells in glioma [PDF]
Brain tumor initiating cells (BTICs), also known as cancer stem cells, hijack high-affinity glucose uptake active normally in neurons to maintain energy demands.

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

To explore the anti-hyperuricemia components in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) calathide extract (SCE), we identified abietic acid (AA) via liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry and found an excellent inhibitor of xanthine oxidase (IC50 = 10.60 µM ...
