The aquatic microbiome can influence cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms. Abundances of genes and transcripts for phosphorus acquisition, denitrification and nitrogen fixation were higher upstream, whereas in Lake Erie genes and transcripts for microcystin production were higher.

Gluconic acid production by bacteria to liberate phosphorus from insoluble phosphate complexes [PDF]
Ten indigenous bacterial isolates were identified as efficient mineral phosphate solubilisers namely 7 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, 2 strains of Enterobacter aerogenes and 1 strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. All the ten strains were able to dissolve

Role of Two Methanol Dehydrogenases in Methanol Metabolism of Methylobacterium
In this study, the pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) high-yield mutant J1-1 of Methylobacterium glucophilum MP688 was used to do bioinformatics analysis to extract the two methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) genes from the genome, mpq0771 and mpq2496.

Transcriptional regulation of insulin-degrading enzyme modulates mitochondrial amyloid β (Aβ) peptide catabolism and functionality [PDF]
Studies of post-mortem brains from Alzheimer disease patients suggest that oxidative damage induced by mitochondrial amyloid β (mitAβ) accumulation is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. However, the regulation of mitAβ metabolism is unknown.

Genetic Impacts on the Structure and Mechanics of Cellulose Made by Bacteria
A genetic mutation in a protease of a cellulose‐overproducing evolved bacterium significantly affects the proteome, structure, and mechanical properties of bio‐fabricated cellulose pellicles. By overexpressing synthase proteins that build the cellulose‐forming biological machinery of the cell, the evolved bacterium generates dense, stiff, and strong ...

Glutathione (GSH) conjugates with dopamine (DA)-derived quinones to form reactive or non-reactive GSH-conjugates [PDF]
In this study we demonstrate for the first time that GSH could rapidly conjugate with dopamine (DA)-derived DA-o-quinones without enzymatic catalysis to form short-lived intermediate GSH-conjugates (2-S-GSH-DA-o-quinone and 5-S-GSH-DA-o-quinone).
