Multiplex genome editing targeting soybean with ultra-low anti-nutritive oligosaccharides

open access: yesCrop Journal, 2023
Soybean is the primary source of plant protein for humans. Owing to the indigestibility of the raffinose family of oligosaccharides (RFO), raffinose and stachyose are considered anti-nutritive factors in soybean seeds.

Water Deficit Effects on Raffinose Family Oligosaccharide Metabolism in Coleus [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1999
AbstractVariegated coleus (Coleus blumei Benth.) plants were exposed to a restricted water supply for 21 d. The relative water content in leaf tissues was reduced from 80% (control) to 60% (drought-stressed). Under drought conditions, the stomatal conductance and leaf photosynthetic rate were reduced.

VviRafS5 Is a Raffinose Synthase Involved in Cold Acclimation in Grapevine Woody Tissues

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
The accumulation of raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) is a hallmark of plant response to different abiotic stresses, including cold. The synthesis of galactinol, by galactinol synthases (GolS), and raffinose, by raffinose synthases (RafS), are ...

Pea-Derived Raffinose-Family Oligosaccharides as a Novel Ingredient to Accelerate Sour Beer Production. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Agric Food Chem
This study investigated raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) derived from pulses as selective carbon sources for sour beer production. Fourteen lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were screened for growth in media supplemented with RFOs. Furthermore, the influence of ethanol and isomerized α-acids on the bacterial growth was investigated.

Molecular cloning of a seed specific multifunctional RFO synthase/ galactosylhydrolase in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Stachyose is among the raffinose family oligosaccharides one of the major water-soluble carbohydrates next to sucrose in seeds of a number of plant species. Especially in leguminous seeds, e.g. chickpea, stachyose is reported as the major component.

Carbohydrates in Colobanthus quitensis and Deschampsia antarctica

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
Eight to nineteen ethanol-soluble carbohydrate components were identified in vegetative tissues of Colobanthus quitensis and Deschampsia antarctica. The analysed carbohydrates included: monosaccharides, cyclitols, galactosyl cyclitols, raffinose family ...

Cyclitols, galactosyl cyclitols and raffinose family oligosaccharides in Mexican wild lupin seeds

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
Ten to 16 ethanol-soluble carbohydrate components were identified in the seeds of six Mexican wild lupins. The analysed carbohydrates included: monosaccharides, disaccharides, cyclitols, galactosyl cyclitols and raffinose family oligosaccharides ...

Genetic Analysis of the Raffinose Family Oligosaccharides in Common Bean [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Horticultural Science, 2002
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a nutritionally complete food, but contains antinutritional compounds that reduce digestibility. One group of compounds includes the raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) (raffinose, stachyose, and verbascose), which are partly responsible for flatulence after beans are eaten.

Different effects of soil drought on soluble carbohydrates of developing Lupinus pilosus and Lupinus luteus embryos

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
The aim of this study was to compare the accumulation of soluble carbohydrates in embryos of two lupin species: cultivated Lupinus luteus (cv. Juno) and wild L. pilosus, developing on plants grown under normal soil humidity and soil drought. All analysed

The GARP/MYB-related grape transcription factor AQUILO improves cold tolerance and promotes the accumulation of raffinose family oligosaccharides. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Exp Bot, 2018
Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a widely cultivated fruit crop whose growth and productivity are greatly affected by low temperatures. On the other hand, wild Vitis species represent valuable genetic resources of natural stress tolerance.
