Determinants of raffinose family oligosaccharide use in Bacteroides species
ABSTRACT Bacteroides species are successful colonizers of the human colon and can utilize a wide variety of complex polysaccharides and oligosaccharides that are indigestible by the host. To do this, they use enzymes encoded in polysaccharide utilization loci (PULs). While recent work has

Diffusion and bulk flow in phloem loading - a theoretical analysis of the polymer trap mechanism in plants [PDF]
Plants create sugar in the mesophyll cells of their leaves by photosynthesis. This sugar, mostly sucrose, has to be loaded via the bundle sheath into the phloem vascular system (the sieve elements), where it is distributed to growing parts of the plant ...

Stem Carbohydrate Richness in Two Cycad Species
The pachycaulous stem of cycad plants enables the storage of abundant nonstructural carbohydrates. Cycas revoluta Thunb. and Zamia furfuracea L.f. stems were analyzed for starch and 15 sugars to determine carbohydrate richness.

Mutations modulate soluble carbohydrates composition in seeds of Lathyrus sativus L.
Seeds of Lathyrus sativus cv. Derek and Krab were used as biological material for induced mutagenesis. Three mutant lines were obtained from seeds of grass pea cv. Derek and 15 lines from mutagenised seeds of cv. Krab.

Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.

: Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) value as a functional food is still quite underexplored. Weaned Wistar albino rats were fed one of four experimental equilibrated diets based on casein or cowpea meal as the only protein sources.

Transcriptional analysis of oligosaccharide utilization by Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04 [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Probiotic bifidobacteria in combination with prebiotic carbohydrates have documented positive effects on human health regarding gastrointestinal disorders and improved immunity, however the selective routes of uptake remain unknown for most ...

In soybean, the trihelix transcription factor GmGT‐2F positively regulates the expression of the α‐galactosidase gene GmAGAL, thereby modulating seed oil content. The cyclophilin GmCYP2 interacts with GmGT‐2F and suppresses GmAGAL activation. Haplotype diversity analysis of GmGT‐2F, GmCYP2, and GmAGAL identified favorable haplotype combinations ...

Pan‐genome analysis reveals that high‐altitude Rhododendron species resist alpine cold stress by rapidly sensing and engaging the chilling response pathway and genes that directly and indirectly protect the plant from UV radiation. Heritable genomic features such as long terminal repeats contribute to the adaptive diversification of Rhododendron ...
