Poorly differentiated thyroid cancer: Clinical, pathological, mutational, and outcome analysis
Introduction: Poorly differentiated thyroid cancer (PDTC) remains a challenge not only for pathologists and surgeons because of the difficulties associated with the diagnostic process and the compelling need for difficult thyroidectomy, but it is also of

The concept of a circulating RAS is well established and known to play an endocrine role in the regulation of fluid homeostasis (see Section 4.1, Chapter 4). However, it is more appropriate to view the RAS in the contemporary notion as an “angiotensin-generating system”, which consists of angiotensinogen, angiotensin-generating enzymes, and ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Background In cancer, cellular transformation is followed by tumour development. Knowledge on the mechanisms of transformation, involving activation of proto-oncogenes and inactivation of tumour-suppressor genes has considerably improved whereas tumour ...

Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

A new mechanism for LKB1 activation
Liver kinase B1 (LKB1, also known as serine/threonine kinase 11, STK11) has been thought to be a constitutively active tumor suppressor that is activated by forming an active complex.

Differentially expressed genes in visceral or subcutaneous adipose tissue of obese men and women
There is growing evidence that the distribution of adipose tissue in the body is of importance in the development of metabolic complications of obesity, such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

All over the place: deciphering HRAS signaling from different subcellular compartments
RAS (rat sarcoma virus oncogene homolog) oncogenes regulate fundamental biological processes through an ever-expanding signaling network. Using interaction proteomics, phosphoproteomics, transcriptomics, and integration of these datasets with a novel ...

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
