New Insights on Heat Shock Proteins as Regulators of Reactive Oxygen Species Across Various Stressors in Diseases

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Living beings are persistently challenged by stress. Stress can be induced by internal stressors and external stressors. External stressors, including radiation, heat, heavy metals, nutritional imbalances, infections, and psychological stress, can induce protein denaturation, leading to misfolded or aggregated proteins.

Melatonin inhibits cholangiocyte hyperplasia in cholestatic rats by interaction with MT1 but not MT2 melatonin receptors

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2011
In bile duct-ligated (BDL) rats, large cholangiocytes proliferate by activation of cAMP-dependent signaling. Melatonin, which is secreted from pineal gland as well as extrapineal tissues, regulates cell mitosis by interacting with melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) modulating cAMP and clock genes.

Dianas terapéuticas de melatonina: propiedades y beneficios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
La melatonina ( N - Acetil - 5 - metoxitriptamina ) es una hormona indólica derivada del triptófano, cuya producción ocurre principalmente en la glándula pineal. Está implicada en una gran cantidad de procesos biológicos pero su

TRPV4 Stimulation Induced Melatonin Secretion by Increasing Arylalkymine N-acetyltransferase (AANAT) Protein Level [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Melatonin is a molecule which has gained a great deal of interest in many areas of science; its synthesis was classically known to be in the pineal gland. However, many organs synthesize melatonin, such as several ocular structures. Melatonin is known to

Higher melatonin in the follicle fluid and MT2 expression in the granulosa cells contribute to the OHSS occurrence

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2019
Background Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a common and severe complication for patients undergoing IVF/ICSI-ET. Melatonin widely participates in the regulation of female reproductive endocrine activity.

Exogenous Melatonin and Sleep Quality: A Scoping Review of Systematic Reviews

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 66, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Melatonin is increasingly used to treat sleep disturbances, yet its overall efficacy remains unclear due to variability in existing evidence. This scoping review aimed to synthesize systematic reviews with meta‐analyses assessing the effects of exogenously administered melatonin on sleep quality in humans.

Melatonin and diabetes: from pathophysiology to the treatment perspectives

open access: yesСахарный диабет, 2013
Pineal hormone melatonin synchronizes insulin secretion and glucose homeostasis with solar periods. Misalliance between melatonin-mediated circadian rhythms and insulin secretion characterizes diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM).

Insulin and IGF1 enhance IL-17-induced chemokine expression through a GSK3B-dependent mechanism: a new target for melatonin\u27s anti-inflammatory action. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Obesity is a chronic inflammation with increased serum levels of insulin, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1), and interleukin-17 (IL-17). The objective of this study was to test a hypothesis that insulin and IGF1 enhance IL-17-induced expression of ...

A Randomized, Triple‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled, Parallel Clinical Trial Investigating Safety and Efficacy of Corn Leaf Extract on Sleep Quality in a Healthy Population With Difficulty Falling or Staying Asleep

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Corn leaf extract (CLE) contains a naturally occurring substance, 6‐methoxybenzoxazolinone (6‐MBOA). Structurally similar to melatonin, 6‐MBOA acts as a weak β‐adrenergic agonist with an affinity for melatonin receptors and stimulating melatonin synthesis.
