Central serotonin-2A (5-HT2A) receptor dysfunction in depression and epilepsy : the missing link? [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2015
5-Hydroxytryptamine 2A receptors (5-HT2A-Rs) are G-protein coupled receptors. In agreement with their location in the brain, they have been implicated not only in various central physiological functions including memory, sleep, nociception, eating and ...

5-HT2A receptor antagonist M100907 reduces serotonin synthesis: An autoradiographic study [PDF]

open access: yesBrain Research Bulletin, 2012
The effects of the administration of the serotonin (5-HT)(2A) antagonist, M100907, on 5-HT synthesis rates, were evaluated using the α-[(14)C]methyl-l-tryptophan (α-MTrp) autoradiographic method. In the treatment study, M100907 (10mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 30 min before the α-MTrp injection (30 μCi over 2 min).

Antagonist Functional Selectivity: 5-HT2A Serotonin Receptor Antagonists Differentially Regulate 5-HT2A Receptor Protein Level In Vivo [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2011
Dysregulation of the 5-HT2A receptor is implicated in both the etiology and treatment of schizophrenia. Although the essential role of 5-HT2A receptors in atypical antipsychotic drug actions is widely accepted, the contribution of 5-HT2A down-regulation to their efficacy is not known.

Decreased density of serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in rheumatoid arthritis [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2006
Animal studies have indicated that 5-HT2A receptors could play a role in arthritic diseases. To analyse the binding properties of 5-HT2A receptors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.Using a radioactive binding assay, 43 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were compared with 49 sex and age matched controls for density and affinity (measured as Bmax and

Serotonin signaling modulates aging-associated metabolic network integrity in response to nutrient choice in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2021
Lyu et al analysed metabolic network integrity in Drosophila melanogaster to assess the systemic effects of nutrient choice. By knocking out the serotonin receptor, 5-HT2A, they demonstrated that the effects of different macronutrients on the stability ...

The Influence of Hyperactivity of the Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal Axis and Hyperglycemia on the 5-HT2A Receptor-mediated Wet-dog Shake Responses in Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hyperactivity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis induces hyperglycemia and serotonin (5-HT)2A receptor supersensitivity. In the present study, to investigate the effect of hyperglycemia on the function of 5-HT2A receptors, we compared the 5-

Hallucinogens and Serotonin 5-HT2A Receptor-Mediated Signaling Pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The neuropsychological effects of naturally occurring psychoactive chemicals have been recognized for millennia. Hallucinogens, which include naturally occurring chemicals such as mescaline and psilocybin, as well as synthetic compounds, such as lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), induce profound alterations of human consciousness, emotion, and cognition.

Involvement of 5-HT2A receptor hyperfunction in the anxiety-like behavior induced by doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide combination treatment in rats

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2018
We examined whether combination treatment with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, a traditional chemotherapy for breast cancer, induced anxiety-like behavior in rats.

Serotonin and motherhood: From molecules to mood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Emerging research points to a valuable role of the monoamine neurotransmitter, serotonin, in the display of maternal behaviors and reproduction-associated plasticity in the maternal brain.

Expression of serotonin 1A and 2A receptors in molecular- and projection-defined neurons of the mouse insular cortex

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2020
The serotonin (5-HT) system is the target of multiple anxiolytics, including Buspirone, which is a partial agonist of the serotonin 1A receptor (5-HT1A). Similarly, ligands of the serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT2A) were shown to alter anxiety level.
