Dual role of endogenous serotonin in 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid-induced colitis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2016
Background and Aims: Changes in gut serotonin content have been described in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and in different experimental models of colitis: the critical role of this monoamine in the pathogenesis of chronic gastrointestinal inflammation is ...

Gastroenterological Society of Australia Position Statement on the Assessment and Management of Idiopathic Gastroparesis

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
The first Australian guidance document on the assessment and management of idiopathic gastroparesis (IGP) reconceptualises IGP as a sensorimotor disorder. It proposes a novel multidisciplinary treatment algorithm and 20 high‐consensus recommendations, addressing common overlapping disorders, and providing clear guidance on associated disordered eating ...

Registered Clinical Trials of Ayahuasca and DMT: A Scoping Review

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 1, Page 94-108, July 2026.
Interest in ayahuasca and its main component, N,N‐Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), has currently moved from historical and experimental use into modern clinical development. Yet, current evidence is fragmented, and systematic mapping of trial methods and design choices remains limited.

Experience-dependent serotonergic signaling in glia regulates targeted synapse elimination.

open access: yesPLoS Biology
The optimization of brain circuit connectivity based on initial environmental input occurs during critical periods characterized by sensory experience-dependent, temporally restricted, and transiently reversible synapse elimination.

[Genetic dysfunction of the serotonin receptor 5-HT2A in psychiatric disorders].

open access: yesActas espanolas de psiquiatria, 2001
So far, there is increasing evidence of the active role of molecular biology in the psychiatric nosology as well as in the identification of psychiatric fenotypes. In this respect, the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT) has been involved in the etiopathogeny of multiple psychiatry conditions, such as affective disorder, schizophrenia, panic disorder ...

Autism and Cortical Thickness Deviation From Neurotypical Controls: Evidence for a Spatial Association With Serotonin Receptors

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 19, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Cortical thickness (CT) differences between autistic individuals (AI) and neurotypical controls have been consistently reported, yet the neurochemical mechanisms underlying these differences remain insufficiently understood. Neurotransmitter receptor systems exhibit distinct spatial distributions across the cortex and influence synaptic ...

New Imide 5-HT1A Receptor Ligands – Modification of Terminal Fragment Geometry

open access: yesMolecules, 2004
Two sets of new o-methoxyphenylpiperazine (MPP; series a) and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ; series b) derivatives, containing various imide moietiesderived from NAN190, were synthesized and evaluated in vitro for their ability to bind tothe ...

5‐Hydroxytryptamine Distribution Alteration in Both Neuron and Synapse of Tg(SOD1*G93A)1gur Mice: A Potential Intervention Candidate Strategy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study reveals that 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT) synapses in the spinal cord and 5‐HT neurons in the brainstem of the SOD1‐G93A amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) mouse model are significantly altered, showing a decrease in pre‐symptomatic stages but a marked increase as the disease progresses.

trans-2-(2,5-Dimethoxy-4-iodophenyl)cyclopropylamine and trans-2-(2,5-dimethoxy-4-bromophenyl)cyclopropylamine as potent agonists for the 5-HT2 receptor family

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012
A strategy to replace the ethylamine side chain of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine (DOI, 1a), and 2,5-dimethoxy-4-bromoamphetamine (DOB, 1b) with a cyclopropylamine moiety was successful in leading to compounds with high affinity at the 5-HT2 family of ...
