Isolation, purification, and characterization of calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor
Peptides, 1993Intact calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptors were solubilized from porcine neural membranes using sodium cholate: potassium buffer. The solubilized receptors were purified sequentially by hydrophobic interaction and ion-exchange chromatography followed by specific affinity chromatography.

Calcitonin gene-related peptides and their receptors
1999Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is an abundant 37 amino acid neuropeptide which was discovered in 1982 [1]. It is an extremely potent vasodilator, causing noticeable effects on the human forearm when given in femtomole quantities [2]. The peptide is found as two variants, α-and β-CGRP, but these differ only by three amino acids in man, and the ...

Our purpose was to investigate (1) whether uterine relaxation responses to calcitonin gene-related peptide are differentially regulated during pregnancy and labor, (2) the involvement of nitric oxide in smooth muscle relaxant action of calcitonin gene-related peptide in the rat uterus, (3) whether receptors for calcitonin gene-related peptide are ...

Activities of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and related peptides at the CGRP receptor
Peptides, 1990In guinea pig pancreatic acini rat calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) increased amylase release 2-fold, salmon calcitonin had an efficacy of only 44% of that of CGRP and [Tyr0]CGRP(28-37) and human calcitonin had no actions. [Tyr0]CGRP(28-37), but not human calcitonin, antagonized the actions of CGRP in pancreatic acini with an IC50 of 3 microM ...

Limitations in Using Peptide Drugs to Characterize Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Receptors
The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1999Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is an endogenous vasodilator peptide that produces its effects by activation of CGRP1 and CGRP2 receptor subtypes. These receptor subtypes are characterized in functional studies using the agonist Cys(Acm)2, 7-human-alpha-calcitonin gene-related peptide (Cys(ACM)2, 7-h-alpha-CGRP), which activates CGRP2 receptors,

Receptors for calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) in gastrointestinal epithelia
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1995A pharmacological comparison of calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) receptors expressed in normal rat colon mucosa and two human adenocarcinoma cell lines has been undertaken. Using voltage-clamp techniques electrogenic ion transport was continuously monitored across either mucosal preparations or confluent epithelial monolayers grown on permeable ...

Calcitonin gene-related peptide: Multiple actions, multiple receptors
Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1992Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) shows diversity both in its effects and its receptors. It is likely to have roles as a neurotransmitter, neuromodulator, local hormone and trophic factor. Its effects include rapid changes in neuronal activity, relaxation of many types of smooth muscle, actions on metabolism and changes in gene expression ...

Localization of calcitonin gene-related peptide and its receptors in a striated muscle
Brain Research, 1989The distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its binding sites in the bulbocavernosus, a striated muscle, are reported. We used immunohistochemistry and [125I]CGRP autoradiography. The pattern of [125I]CGRP binding was restricted to a discrete band that coincides with the distribution of end-plates in this muscle as determined by CGRP

The gubernaculum appears to guide inguinoscrotal testicular descent by migration into the scrotum ahead of the testis. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has been found in the scrotal branches of the genitofemoral nerve of neonatal rats, and is known to stimulate gubernacular motility in vitro.

Receptors for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the rat adrenal cortex
Endocrine Research, 1998We previously demonstrated the presence of adrenomedullin receptors in the rat adrenal cortex. There is evidence, however, that the actions of adrenomedullin may also be mediated by the CGRP receptor. The present study was designed to determine whether specific CGRP receptors are present in the rat adrenal cortex.
