Whole genome phylogenies reflect the distributions of recombination rates for many bacterial species
Although recombination is accepted to be common in bacteria, for many species robust phylogenies with well-resolved branches can be reconstructed from whole genome alignments of strains, and these are generally interpreted to reflect clonal relationships.

During retrovirus assembly, Gag packages unspliced viral RNA as the virion genome. Genome packaging is usually specific with occasional exceptions of cross-packaging RNA from distantly related retroviruses.

Electrical and photoelectrical properties of MoN/n-Si surface-barrier structures [PDF]
Subject and purpose. The subject of research is the electrical and photoelectric properties of the МoN/n-Si heterostructure fabricated for the first time by means of the deposition of thin film of molybdenum nitride (n-type conductivity) by the reactive ...

Homologous recombination and the repair of DNA double-strand breaks
Homologous recombination enables the cell to access and copy intact DNA sequence information in trans, particularly to repair DNA damage affecting both strands of the double helix.

Primordial helium recombination. I. Feedback, line transfer, and continuum opacity [PDF]
Precision measurements of the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropy on scales ℓ>500 will be available in the near future. Successful interpretation of these data is dependent on a detailed understanding of the damping tail and cosmological ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Electron-Hole Generation and Recombination Rates for Coulomb Scattering in Graphene [PDF]
We calculate electron-hole generation and recombination rates for Coulomb scattering (Auger recombination and impact ionization) in Graphene. The conduction and valence band dispersion relation in Graphene together with energy and momentum conservation ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
