Transcriptional Regulatory Elements in the Human Genome

Annual Review of Genomics and Human Genetics, 2006
The faithful execution of biological processes requires a precise and carefully orchestrated set of steps that depend on the proper spatial and temporal expression of genes. Here we review the various classes of transcriptional regulatory elements (core promoters, proximal promoters, distal enhancers, silencers, insulators/boundary elements, and locus

Regulatory elements of hepatitis B virus transcription

Journal of Viral Hepatitis, 2002
summary. The precise modulation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) gene expression is essential for replication of the virus. HBV sequences are transcribed under the control of the preC/pregenomic, S1, S2 and X promoters. With the exception of S1, all the HBV promoters lack the orthodox TATA box motifs required for the formation of the transcription ...

Genome‐wide maps of transcription regulatory elements

WIREs Systems Biology and Medicine, 2010
AbstractExpression of eukaryotic genes with complex spatial‐temporal regulation during development requires finer regulation than that of genes with simpler expression patterns. Given the high degree of conservation of the developmental gene set across distantly related phylogenetic taxa, it is argued that evolutionary variation has occurred by ...

Analysis of NF1 transcriptional regulatory elements

American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, 2005
AbstractMutations of the NF1 locus cause neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1), a clinically variable autosomal dominant disease. Expression of neurofibromin, the protein product of the NF1 gene, is regulated in a tissue‐ and developmentally‐specific fashion, but the basis for this regulation is not understood.

TREP_DB: Transcriptional regulatory elements pattern database

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2010
Predicting and assigning functions for putative genes and hypothetical proteins are important goals in the post-genomic era. Many methods have been developed for this challenge, among which the straightforward way is function prediction using sequence homology.

Finding Transcriptional Regulatory Elements in Dictyostelium Gene Expression

2005 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation, 2005
In this paper, we proposed an improved method in the prediction of stage-specific TREs associated with four classes of developmentally regulated genes in Dictyostelium discoideum. TRE selection with a direct comparison of e-scores produced lots of the false positive results.
