Anti-inflammatory effects of minocycline are mediated by retinoid signaling

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2018
Background Minocycline is a lipophilic tetracycline of increasing appeal in neuroscience as it inhibits microglial activation, a mechanism involved in numerous neuropsychiatric disorders. Own data point towards retinoid-mediated effects of minocycline in

Retinoid X receptor alpha forms tetramers in solution. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1995
Protein-protein interactions allow the retinoid X receptor (RXR) to bind to cognate DNA as a homo- or a heterodimer and to participate in mediating the effects of a variety of hormones on gene transcription. Here we report a systematic study of the oligomeric state of RXR in the absence of a DNA template.

Rewiring Neuroimmunity: Nanoplatform Innovations for CNS Disease Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
This review explores emerging nanoplatform strategies designed to modulate neuroimmune responses for treating central nervous system (CNS) disorders. It examines structural and microenvironmental barriers, advances in multifunctional and targeted nanotechnologies, and highlights clinical progress and translational challenges, offering insights into the

Bovine cumulus-granulosa cells contain biologically active retinoid receptors that can respond to retinoic acid

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2003
Retinoids, a class of compounds that include retinol and its metabolite, retinoic acid, are absolutely essential for ovarian steroid production, oocyte maturation, and early embryogenesis.

A High‐Fidelity RNA‐Targeting Cas13X Downregulates Connexin43 in Macroglia: A Novel Neuroprotective Strategy for Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the role of connexin43 (Cx43) in mediating glia activation and neuroinflammation in glaucoma. Using Cx43 knockout mice, it is shown that macroglial cells‐derived Cx43 modulates microglial activation, proliferation, migration, and polarization.

Alternative retinoid X receptor (RXR) ligands

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2019
Retinoid X receptors (RXRs) control a wide variety of functions by virtue of their dimerization with other nuclear hormone receptors (NRs), contributing thereby to activities of different signaling pathways. We review known RXR ligands as transcriptional modulators of specific RXR-dimers and the associated biological processes.

Interaction of the peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor and retinoid X receptor. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1993
The rat peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) was expressed in insect cells and was shown to bind to a cognate PPAR response element (PPRE) from the acyl-CoA oxidase gene. Upon purification, PPAR was no longer able to bind DNA, although binding could be restored by addition of insect cell extracts.

Single‐Cell RNA Sequencing Reveals the Heterogeneity in Differentiation Trajectory and Tumor Microenvironment Leading to More Aggressive Phenotypes of Papillary Thyroid Cancer in Children and Young Adult Patients

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
scRNA sequencing reveals distinct tumor ecosystem features in CAYA‐PTC, marked by enriched CD4T_Tfh, CD8T_Tex cells, and rapid malignant thyrocyte differentiation (absent of mild‐state BRAF‐like population) toward invasive states. Prominent emCAF_LAMP5 populations interact with endothelial cells and thyrocytes facilitate angiogenesis and metastasis ...

Efficient Inhibition of Activation-induced Fas Ligand Up-regulation and T Cell Apoptosis by Retinoids Requires Occupancy of both Retinoid X Receptors and Retinoic Acid Receptors (*)

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1995
Two retinoic acid (RA) receptors, retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and retinoid X receptors (RXRs), have been identified. All-trans-RA and its 9-cis-isomer are ligands for RARs, but only 9-cis-RA binds RXRs with high affinity.
