Induced differentiation of acute myeloid leukemia cells by activation of Retinoid X and Liver X Receptors

open access: yesLeukemia, 2013
Use of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) as a differentiation agent has been limited to acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) as non-APL leukemias are insensitive to ATRA.

Modulation of Network Plasticity Opens Novel Therapeutic Possibilities in Cancer, Diabetes, and Neurodegeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plasticity changes of molecular networks form a cellular learning process. Signaling network plasticity promotes cancer, metastasis, and drug resistance development. 55 plasticity‐related cancer drug targets are listed (20 having already approved drugs, 9 investigational drugs, and 26 being drug target candidates).

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Effect of LXR/RXR agonism on brain and CSF Aβ40 levels in rats [version 2; referees: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2016
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized pathologically by the presence of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. The amyloid hypothesis contends that the abnormal accumulation of Aβ, the principal component of amyloid plaques, plays an essential ...

Dimerization with Retinoid X Receptors Promotes Nuclear Localization and Subnuclear Targeting of Vitamin D Receptors*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2000
The vitamin D receptor (VDR) acts as heterodimer with the retinoid X receptor α (RXR) to control transcriptional activity of target genes. To explore the influence of heterodimerization on the subcellular distribution of these receptors in living cells ...

Maximal use of 0.05% topical isotretinoin in patients with congenital ichthyosis results in low systemic exposure

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Congenital ichthyoses (CI) are rare, inherited skin disorders characterized by hyperkeratosis, scaling and fissuring that significantly impair patients' quality of life. Treatment options are limited, with systemic retinoids reserved for severe cases owing to their adverse effect profile.

Specific Activation of Retinoic Acid Receptors (RARs) and Retinoid X Receptors Reveals a Unique Role for RARγ in Induction of Differentiation and Apoptosis of S91 Melanoma Cells*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1997
Retinoic acid (RA) and 9-cis-RA induce growth arrest and differentiation of S91 melanoma cells. RA activates retinoic acid receptors (RARs), whereas 9-cis-RA activates both RARs and retinoid X receptors (RXRs).

Mapping molluscan endocrinology: a systematic and critical appraisal

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Historically, a vertebrate‐centric paradigm has framed our interpretation of molluscan endocrinology, with considerable research focusing on vertebrate‐type steroid hormones (e.g. oestrogens, testosterone). However, contradictory evidence on the occurrence of vertebrate‐type steroid hormones in molluscan tissues, and a lack of the specific ...

Roles of distinct nuclear receptors in diabetic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Diabetes mellitus induces a pathophysiological disorder known as diabetic cardiomyopathy and may eventually cause heart failure. Diabetic cardiomyopathy is manifested with systolic and diastolic contractile dysfunction along with alterations in unique ...
