Role of pharmacogenetics in rifampicin pharmacokinetics and the potential effect on TB–rifampicin sensitivity among Ugandan patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND: Suboptimal anti-TB drugs exposure may cause multidrug-resistant TB. The role of African predominant SLCO1B1 variant alleles on rifampicin pharmacokinetics and the subsequent effect on the occurrence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis-rifampicin ...

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Guselkumab Safety in Patients With Latent Tuberculosis: Analysis of 11 Studies in Psoriatic Disease

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Certain psoriatic disease treatments, including tumor necrosis factor‐α inhibitors (TNFi), increase tuberculosis (TB) risk. Testing for latent TB infection (LTBI) before initiating systemic therapy has been standard practice for psoriasis (PsO) patients; however, updated consensus states routine testing is not required before initiating ...

Mutations outside the rifampicin resistance-determining region associated with rifampicin resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yes, 2011
Objectives: Ninety-six percent of rifampicin resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis was shown to be associated with mutations inside the 81 bp rifampicin resistance-determining region (RRDR) located in the centre of the rpoB gene.
