Genetic Transformation of Rifampicin Resistance in Lactobacillus acidophilus [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1986
Lactobacillus acidophilus strain 100-33, originally isolated from swine faeces, was transformed to rifampicin resistance with DNA from spontaneous rifampicin-resistant mutants derived from it. Cells of the recipient strain were treated with lysozyme and mutanolysin, mixed with donor DNA and polyethylene glycol and grown on a regeneration medium ...

Should treatment of low-level rifampicin mono-resistant tuberculosis be different?

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Tuberculosis and Other Mycobacterial Diseases, 2021
Background: Rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) was frequently detected in Suriname after the introduction of Xpert MTB/RIF in 2012. Subsequent phenotypic drug-susceptibility testing (DST) was not conclusive at that moment, while RR-TB patients ...

Chylothorax in a child with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Thoracic and Critical Care Medicine, 2019
Chylothorax is rare in children. Only a few cases of tuberculosis (TB)-associated chylothorax have been reported. We present a child on standard four-drug TB treatment who presented with wheezing and a chylothorax. Bronchoscopy showed caseating lymph nodes, and rifampicin-resistant TB was identified from the bronchoalveolar lavage specimen.

Virulence of Rifampicin-Resistant Mutants of Bacteria

open access: yesNippon Saikingaku Zasshi, 1971

Daptomycin-reversible rifampicin resistance in vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2007
In a previous study, we observed marked synergy between daptomycin and rifampicin against 73% of rifampicin-resistant, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE), with approximately 100-fold reductions in rifampicin MICs observed at one-eighth to one-fourth daptomycin MIC.

Resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains to Rifampicin: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Introduction: Antitubercular drug resistance strain is a horrifying barrier to effective TB treatment and prevention. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and geographical distribution of rifampicin-resistance M. tuberculosis (MTB) strains.

Rifampicin susceptibility discordance between Xpert MTB/RIF G4 and Xpert Ultra before MDRT-TB treatment initiation: A case report from Uganda

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Tuberculosis and Other Mycobacterial Diseases, 2021
Tuberculosis (TB) resistance to rifampicin, the most powerful drug leads to increase in mortality. Globally, half a million new patients develop such resistant TB each year, coupled with both inappropriate diagnosis and treatment initiation. We report a ...

Rifampicin impregnated dacron grafts: No development of rifampicin resistance in an animal model

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 1995
Rifampicin impregnated Dacron grafts have been shown to be effective at preventing vascular graft infection in different animal models. The development of resistance to rifampicin would be a major drawback to the widespread use of such a graft. We aimed to determine how readily this would occur by using a sheep animal model.Under general anaesthetic a ...

Clinical perspectives on treatment of rifampicin-resistant/multidrug-resistant TB [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, 2020
Rapid diagnostics, newer drugs, repurposed medications, and shorter regimens have radically altered the landscape for treating rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB) and multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). There are multiple ongoing clinical trials aiming to build a robust evidence base to guide RR/MDR-TB treatment, and both observational studies and ...
