Photochemical Electrocyclic Ring Closure and Leaving Group Expulsion from N-(9-oxothioxanthenyl)Benzothiophene Carboxamides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
N-(9-Oxothioxanthenyl)benzothiophene carboxamides bearing leaving groups (LG− = Cl−, PhS−, HS−, PhCH2S−) at the C-3 position of the benzothiophene ring system photochemically cyclize with nearly quantitative release of the leaving group, LG−.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Molecular gas chemistry in AGN. II. High-resolution imaging of SiO emission in NGC1068: shocks or XDR? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper is part of a multi-species survey of line emission from the molecular gas in the circum-nuclear disk (CND) of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC1068. Single-dish observations have provided evidence that the abundance of silicon monoxide(SiO) in the CND ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Synthesis of Ti(OH)OF ⋅ 0.66 H2O in Imidazolium‐based Ionic Liquids

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2021
The influence of the cation of imidazolium‐derived ionic liquids (ILs) on a low‐temperature solution‐based synthesis of hexagonal tungsten bronze (HTB) type Ti(OH)OF ⋅ 0.66 H2O and bronze‐type TiO2(B) is investigated.

Impact of the Recovery on Concentrating Acetic Acid with Low-Pressure Reverse-Osmosis Membranes

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
This work deals with the optimization of the concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) using low-pressure reverse osmosis (LPRO) membranes. Membrane filtration of a synthetic solution simulating the product of biomass hydrolysis was performed ...

Intramolecular pi-pi stacking interactions in 2-substituted N,N-dibenzylaziridinium ions and their regioselectivity in nucleophilic ring-opening reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The ring opening of 2-substituted N,N-dibenzylaziridinium ions by bromide is known to occur exclusively at the Substituted aziridine carbon atom via ail S(N)2 mechanism, whereas the opposite regioselectivity has been observed as the main pathway for ring

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.
