Cholesterol Homeostasis: Not until the SCAP Lady INSIGs [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2002
Three new studies have wide implications for cholesterol homeostasis, identifying a novel mechanism by which a sterol-sensing domain functions in the regulated activation of sterol regulatory element binding proteins.

Acid Sulfite Pulping of Hemp: Effects of Processing Conditions on Lyocell Pulp Quality

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Industrial hemp is emerging as a promising renewable source for next‐generation textile fibers. This study evaluates whether acid sulfite pulping can produce hemp‐based dissolving pulp suitable for lyocell manufacturing. While the process is historically linked to increased cellulose accessibility, it did not achieve the low lignin content and ...

SCAP-TT

open access: yesIbérica, 2017
In this research note we report on the first results of SCAP, the Spanish Corpus Annotation Project, applied to tourism discourse. In particular, we present and assess a new TreeTagger parameter set for Spanish (SCAP-TT), which has been trained for the Part-of-Speech tagging (POS-tagging) and lemmatisation of Spanish promotional tourism texts. Although

Energy Transfer in Nanodroplet‐Based Luminescent Solar Concentrators

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
We present novel luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) featuring polymer composites with fluorescent dye‐doped oil nanodroplets. This liquid environment ensures high dye solubility and preserves fluorescence quantum yields, even at high local dye concentrations.

Inorganic Hole Transport Materials for Advancing n‐i‐p Perovskite Solar Cells: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Inorganic hole transport materials are comprehensively reviewed for advanced n‐i‐p perovskite solar cells through improved photovoltaic parameters, reduced ion migration and enhanced operational stability. Metal oxides, chalcogenides and hybrid inorganic‐organic hole transport layers demonstrate strong potential for achieving efficient, durable and ...

Model‐Based Cybersecurity: Automating Common Vulnerabilities Reporting

open access: yesSystems Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) Program's mission is to identify, define, and catalog publicly disclosed cybersecurity vulnerabilities. A cybersecurity practitioner who suspects a software, hardware, or service vulnerability, can initiate a CVE‐ID Requesting process, as defined by MITRE.

Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing for Pathogenic Diagnosis and Antibiotic Management of Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Immunocompromised Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
BackgroundMetagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a promising technique for pathogens diagnosis. However, application of mNGS in immunocompromised adults with severe community-acquired pneumonia (SCAP) is relatively limited.MethodsWe ...

Staging concept for aging management: Definition, mechanism, and coping strategies

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
We divided the overall aging stage into “pre‐aging”, “aging compensation”, and “aging disability”. For each stage, we delineate the clinical presentations, biological phenomena, theoretical underpinnings, and key management priorities. Abstract Aging, as a gradual and largely irreversible biological process, characterized by declining organismal ...

Mitochondrial Functions Maintain Scap Survival Following P. Endodontalis Infection

open access: yesInternational Dental Journal
Aim or purpose: To investigate the effects of Porphyromonas endodontalis on the viability of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAP) and explore the mechanism of mitochondrial functions and downstream signalling in maintaining SCAP survival, thus to ...

SCAP contributes to embryonic angiogenesis by negatively regulating KISS-1 expression in mice

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2023
Sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) cleavage-activating protein (SCAP) is indispensable in organ development because it maintains intracellular cholesterol homeostasis. The vessel is not widely conceived of as a cholesterol-sensitive tissue,
