FGF-2 Induces Neuronal Death through Upregulation of System xc- [PDF]
The cystine/glutamate antiporter (system xc-) transports cystine into cell in exchange for glutamate. Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) upregulates system xc- selectively on astrocytes, which leads to increased cystine uptake, the substrate for ...

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Quantitative analysis of SR-BI-dependent HDL retroendocytosis in hepatocytes and fibroblasts
Previous studies have suggested that HDL retroendocytosis may play a role in scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI)-dependent selective lipid uptake in a cell-specific manner.

Structural basis of ligand binding modes of human EAAT2
Excitatory amino acid transporter 2 (EAAT2) mediates glutamate uptake in the synapse. Here, authors report cryo-EM structures of the human EAAT2 in complexes with glutamate or selective inhibitor WAY-213613, revealing important insights into substrate ...

Bioavailability of pesticides in freshwater sediments [PDF]
In ecological risk assessment standardized sediment toxicity tests are used to predict the hazard of chemicals for sediment-living organisms. Feeding is a prerequisite in these long-term tests to avoid starvation of test organisms.

Multiple blood-brain barrier transport mechanisms limit bumetanide accumulation, and therapeutic potential, in the mammalian brain [PDF]
There is accumulating evidence that bumetanide, which has been used over decades as a potent loop diuretic, also exerts effects on brain disorders, including autism, neonatal seizures, and epilepsy, which are not related to its effects on the kidney but ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Selective Uptake of Dietary Tocotrienols into Rat Skin.
Using a vitamin E mixture extracted from palm oil, the tissue distribution of dietary tocotrienols and tocopherols was examined in rats and mice. Wistar rats (4-wk-old) were fed a diet containing 48.8 mg/kg alpha-tocopherol, 45.8 mg/kg alpha-tocotrienol and 71.4 mg/kg gamma-tocotrienol for 8 wk.
