Metabolic Effects of Oral Phenelzine Treatment on High-Sucrose-Drinking Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Phenelzine has been suggested to have an antiobesity effect by inhibiting de novo lipogenesis, which led us to investigate the metabolic effects of oral chronic phenelzine treatment in high-sucrose-drinking mice.

High Throughput Approaches to Unravel the Mechanism of Action of a New Vanadium‐Based Compound against Trypanosoma cruzi

open access: yesBioinorganic Chemistry and Applications, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Treatment for Chagas disease, a parasitosis caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, has always been based on two drugs, nifurtimox and benznidazole, despite the toxic side effects described after prolonged prescription. In this work, we study a new prospective antitrypanosomal drug based on vanadium, here named VIVO(5Brsal)(aminophen). We found a good IC50 value,

Increased atherosclerotic plaque in AOC3 knock-out in ApoE−/− mice and characterization of AOC3 in atherosclerotic human coronary arteries

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
IntroductionAmine oxidase copper containing 3 (AOC3) displays adhesion between leukocytes and endothelial cells and enzymatic functions. Given its controversial role in atherogenesis, we proposed to investigate the involvement of AOC3 in the formation of

Systemic oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis of brain edema in rats with chronic liver failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Chronic liver failure leads to hyperammonemia, a central component in the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy (HE); however, a correlation between blood ammonia levels and HE severity remains controversial. It is believed oxidative stress plays a role

Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase / vascular adhesion protein-1 activity exerts an antidiabetic action in Goto-Kakizaki rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
n this study we have explored whether the bifunctional protein semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO)/vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) represents a novel target for type 2 diabetes. To this end, Goto-Kakizaki (GK) diabetic rats were treated with

Precision medicine in diabetes prediction: Exploring a subgroup‐specific biomarker strategy for risk stratification

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 16, Issue 1, Page 43-50, January 2025.
This study from the Taiwan Lifestyle Cohort uses subgroup‐specific biomarkers for precision type 2 diabetes prediction. We found that a gender‐ and BMI‐specific biomarker strategy, which used blood SCG3 and VAP‐1 levels in different subgroups, can improve the prediction of incident diabetes.

Functional modulation of vascular adhesion protein-1 by a novel splice variant. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Vascular Adhesion Protein-1 (VAP-1) is an endothelial adhesion molecule belonging to the primary amine oxidases. Upon inflammation it takes part in the leukocyte extravasation cascade facilitating transmigration of leukocytes into the inflamed tissue ...
