Emerging role of p62/sequestosome-1 in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease
The p62/sequestosome-1 is a multifunctional protein containing several protein-protein interaction domains. Through these interactions p62 is involved in the regulation of cellular signaling and protein trafficking, aggregation and degradation. p62 protein can bind through its UBA motif to ubiquitinated proteins and control their aggregation and ...

Canine cutaneous mast cell tumors (MCT) are common, frequently malignant neoplasms that are currently graded histologically for provision of prognostic information. Continuing evidence of subsets of MCT within certain grades (with differing survival times) indicate the need for biomarkers that will facilitate better patient stratification and also ...

The sequestosome 1 protein: therapeutic vulnerabilities in ovarian cancer
Clinical and Translational Oncology, 2023Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most deadly tumor that may develop in a woman's reproductive system. It is also one of the most common causes of death among those who have been diagnosed with cancer in women. An adapter protein known as sequestosome 1(SQSTM1) or p62 is primarily responsible for the transportation, degradation, and destruction of a wide ...

The Presence of the Autophagic Markers LC3B and Sequestosome 1/p62 in the Hydatidiform Mole
International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2022Autophagy is implicated in normal pregnancy and various pathologic pregnancy conditions. Its presence in hydatidiform moles (HM) is unknown. We immunohistochemically studied 36 HM for LC3B and p62 to precisely determine their expression in the decidua, endometrium, and villi. Nineteen nonmolar pregnancies were also studied.

Sequestosome 1/p62: across diseases
Biomarkers, 2012Sequestosome 1/p62 is a signal modulator or adaptor protein involved in receptor-mediated signal transduction. Sequestosome 1/p62 is gaining attention as it is involved in several diseases including Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, liver and breast cancer, Paget's disease of bone, obesity and insulin resistance.

Cytosolic overexpression of p62 sequestosome 1 in neoplastic prostate tissue
Histopathology, 2005Aims : To investigate the expression of p62 in various prostatic tissues, and to demonstrate different immunohistochemical patterns of p62 expression in distinct pathological entities of the prostate. The p62 sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1) gene product is a multifunctional protein with ubiquitous expression in normal adult tissue. Methods and results ...

Sequestosome 1/p62 shuttles polyubiquitinated tau for proteasomal degradation
Journal of Neurochemistry, 2005AbstractInclusions isolated from several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), are characterized by ubiquitin‐positive proteinaceous aggregates. Employing confocal and immunoelectron microscopy, we find that the ubiquitin‐associating protein sequestosome1/p62, co‐localizes to aggregates isolated from AD but not control brain ...
