Occurrence of multiple congenital anomalies in Potamotrygon amandae (Elasmobranchii, Potamotrygoninae) embryos, including the first report of bicephaly

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Reports of teratogenic embryos in elasmobranchs have been documented in multiple species, with proposed aetiologies including environmental disturbances, genetic mutations, predation, exposure to endocrine‐disrupting compounds and maternal stress.

Characterisation of human hair follicle development

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Schematic of hair follicle development in human skin. Hair follicle primordia of similar sizes, but different densities, are laid out across the skin. The distinction between terminal and vellus hair sites is not obvious at early stages of hair follicle development.

PBX1 and PBX3 transcription factors regulate SHH expression in the Frontonasal Ectodermal Zone through complementary mechanisms.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics
Sonic hedgehog (SHH) signaling from the Frontonasal Ectodermal Zone (FEZ) is a key regulator of craniofacial morphogenesis. Along with SHH, pre-B-cell leukemia homeobox (PBX) transcription factors regulate midfacial development.

A Theory of Leadership Meta‐Talk and the Talking‐Doing Gap

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract We identify managers' meta‐level talk about the positive purpose, meaning, and significance of their actions as an overlooked type of leadership behaviour and call it leadership meta‐talk. We outline why leadership meta‐talk is not necessarily truthful or deceptive, but selective and loosely coupled with leadership practice.

Hydrogen sulfide promotes proliferation and regeneration of human cerebral microvascular endothelial cells via the sonic hedgehog signaling pathway

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences
We investigated the effects of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sonic hedgehog (SHH) on the proliferation, autophagy, and apoptosis of human microvascular endothelial cells (HCMEC/D3).

Thermal histories of El Médano 300 (EM 300) and Northwest Africa 8155 (NWA 8155): Implications for the diversity of IAB‐ungrouped iron meteorites and their parent bodies

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This study provides the first petrographic, crystallographic, and chemical comparison between El Médano 300 (EM 300) and Northwest Africa 8155 (NWA 8155), two particular IAB‐ungrouped iron meteorites. Both contain exceptionally large graphite nodules and “flowers”, providing unique insights into carbon behavior in metallic melts and cooling ...

Beyond Deterministic Fetal Programming: Intrauterine Exposures and the Multifactorial Origins of Adiposity

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Excess adiposity is not a recently developed problem but has existed since at least the upper Paleolithic, allowing evolutionary selection pressures to adapt the physiology of the pregnant woman and the feto‐placental unit for maternal and fetal protection.

The Role of Scribble in Activating the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) Pathway and Its Role in the Progression of SHH-Medulloblastoma

open access: yes
Our current knowledge of regulators in vertebrates’ Hedgehog (HH) pathway is incomplete. Gaining a better understanding of HH pathway components is appealing due to the key role of the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) pathway in modulating the developmental ...

Balancing Neutral and Responsive Competences in the Context of Functional Politicization

open access: yesPublic Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Democratic governments can legitimately expect permanent civil servants to undertake functionally politicized tasks, such as providing political‐tactical advice. However, safeguarding the neutrality and legitimacy of a permanent civil service in the context of functional politicization necessitates that political considerations do not override
