Gut Health in Ostriches (Struthio camelus): Insights Into Intestinal Structure, Functions, Microbiome, and Improvement Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Our paper systematically reviews the intestinal structure, function, and microbiota of ostriches, along with strategies for improving their gut health. We analyze how these factors collectively influence intestinal homeostasis and ostrich welfare, emphasizing probiotics as a promising intervention to enhance gut health, boost population well‐being, and

Performance of Dairy Cows Fed Annual Ryegrass Silage and Corn Silage with Steam-Flaked or Ground Corn [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2008
Twenty-four lactating Holstein cows were used in a 6-wk randomized block design trial with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments to determine the effects of feeding ground corn (GC) or steam-flaked corn (SFC) in diets based on either annual ryegrass silage (RS) or a 50:50 blend of annual ryegrass and corn silages (BLEND).

Enhancing Meat Quality Through Dietary Fiber: Insights Into the Gut Microbiota‐Derived Short‐Chain Fatty Acids‐Muscle Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary fiber (DF) modulates meat quality through the gut‐muscle axis by reshaping gut microbiota, improving intestinal integrity, reducing inflammation, and regulating muscle metabolism. These mechanisms influence muscle fiber characteristics and post‐mortem biochemistry, thereby enhancing tenderness, juiciness, color, flavor, and nutritional value of

The relationship of silage temperature with the microbiological status of the face of corn silage bunkers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2010
A method is proposed to quantify aerobic deterioration of corn silage forage quality as related to the temperature of silage mass in the bunker. Aerobic deterioration, apart from causing nutritional value losses, affects the hygienic quality of silages through the accumulation of pathogenic organisms and their toxins.

Production of bioethanol from residual barley and utilization of fermentation co‐products in animal nutrition

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract The search for sustainable alternatives for bioethanol production has encouraged the valorization of agro‐industrial residues. This study evaluated the use of residual barley as a feedstock for bioethanol production and as a potential ingredient for ruminant feed.

Productive performance and quantitative carcass traits of lambs fed saccharine sorghum silage [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2019
: The objective of this work was to evaluate the productive performance and carcass traits of lambs fed silages of different types of sorghum and corn. Thirty-two uncastrated male Suffolk lambs were used. The experimental design was completely randomized,

Effect of inoculants in corn silage on dry matter digestibility, ingestive behavior, performance and carcass of heifers

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2021
We aim to evaluate inoculants with different strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in corn silage on ingestive behavior, apparent digestibility of diet, performance and carcass traits of heifers.

Rumen methanogenic archaea and their correlation with enteric methane emission in ruminant animals: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Livestock, especially ruminants, are a major source of global methane emissions, primarily produced by methanogenic archaea during enteric fermentation. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis to account for factors that could influence the relationship between ruminal methanogenic populations and methane emissions, such ...

SILAGE QUALITY OF CORN AND SORGHUM ADDED WITH FORAGE PEANUTS

open access: yesRevista Caatinga, 2016
Corn and sorghum are standard silage crops because of their fermentative characteristics. While corn and sorghum silages have lower crude protein (CP) contents than other crops, intercropping with legumes can increase CP content.

Nutritional composition and aerobic stability of wheat and corn silages stored under different environmental conditions

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2018
We aimed to evaluate nutritional quality, fermentation profile, aerobic stability, and dry matter losses in corn (Zea mays) and wheat (Triticum aestivum 'BRS Umbu') silages.
