Synergistic effects of maize defoliation and common bean relay cropping in Western Ethiopia
Abstract Background Maize defoliation is practiced to enhance crop management by improving light penetration, nutrient allocation, controlling weeds, and providing supplementary feeds for livestock. A rapid decline in soil fertility and low crop yields associated with maize‐based monocropping has prompted the recent introduction of maize common bean ...

A Comparison of the Digestibility of Atlas Sorgo Silages with Corn Silage
Summary Silages made from component parts of Atlas sorgo plants were compared in digestion trials to silages made from two corn hybrids and RS 301, a sterile hybrid sorghum. Of the silages tested, Coker 911 corn silage had the most TDN. The Dixie 82 corn silage and RS 301 sorghum silage were very similar in TDN content.

Abstract Background Cassava leaves are a major byproduct of cassava processing and have a low utilization rate. In this study, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Bacillus subtilis were used for solid‐state fermentation of cassava leaves to improve their feed quality. Results After 48 h of fermentation, the feed pH decreased to

Use of “Corn Picker for Silage” to Evaluate Corn Silage Hybrids
“Corn Picker for Corn Silage” is an Excel spreadsheet program that more accurately determines a superior corn silage hybrid based on all relevant costs and returns that affect corn silage and dairy nutrition. It can be localized to specific farm situations or one can use a standard set of costs such as “Estimated Costs of Crop Production in Iowa-2009 ...
