Effect of repeated hot water immersion on cognitive performance, cerebrovascular function, sleep and biomarkers of neurodegeneration in older adults

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ageing is associated with cognitive decline and increased risk of developing neurodegenerative disease. Repeated passive heating, using hot water immersion (HWI), may improve cognitive performance via improved cerebral oxygenation, but this is yet to be examined in older adults.

Simvastatin Encapsulation in Alginate-Based Microspheres

open access: yes, 2016
Despite the great success of hip implant surgeries, wear particle-induced implant aseptic loosening still limits the implant longevity. Simvastatin, an FDA-approved cholesterol lowering statin, is a promising drug candidate for the treatment of implant ...

Effect of repeated hot water immersion on muscle strength, power, function and physical activity in healthy older adults: A randomised crossover trial

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ageing leads to an increased prevalence of sarcopenia and frailty, characterised by progressive declines in muscle strength, power and function and reduced physical activity. Hot water immersion (HWI) could potentially improve muscle function, but this is yet to be explored in older adults.

Simvastatin treatment in db/db mice.

open access: yes, 2012
A–B: Dyslipid metabolism was significantly improved after treatment with Simvastatin in (A) serum cholesterol and (B) triglycerides. C: The levels of glucose were not changed. D: The levels of albuminuria were also remarked decreased in db/db mice.

Cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes: Pathophysiological mechanisms and opportunities for multiscale computational modelling and simulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Overview of multiscale cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes and how to model and simulate these changes using a human‐based, multiscale computational framework. Cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes occurs at ionic channel, protein, cellular, tissue and whole‐organ level, affecting the electrophysiological function, mechanical

Impacts of Pharmacokinetic Gene Polymorphisms on Steady‐State Plasma Concentrations of Simvastatin in Thai Population

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science
Simvastatin, an HMG‐CoA reductase inhibitor, is widely used for hypercholesterolemia but may cause myotoxicity linked to its plasma concentration. Pharmacokinetic gene polymorphisms influence inter‐individual variability in simvastatin exposure.
