Recent advancements in citrus by‐product utilization for sustainable food production

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, Volume 2, Issue 3, Page 377-389, September 2025.
Abstract The upcycling of citrus by‐products shows significant potential to combat food waste and create sustainable products for food and nonfood applications. With an annual global production of approximately 124 million tons, citrus fruit processing generates nearly 50% waste, mainly comprising peels, seeds, and membranes. These by‐products are rich

Flavonoids as Promising Akt1 Inhibitors in Cancer Medicine: Insights From Molecular Docking, Dynamics, DFT Calculations, and In Vitro Validation

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway is commonly deregulated in different types of cancers, contributing to tumor proliferation, persistence, and resistance to treatment. Akt1, a crucial kinase within this pathway, plays a critical role in tumor progression and the occurrence of therapeutic resistance.

Alleviating Effects of Citrus Polymethoxyflavones on Autoimmune Thyroiditis via IL‐17 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 4, Page 1887-1902, July 2025.
Citrus flavonoid extracts reduced TPO‐ Ab levels in AITDs cell models. PMFs exhibited the strongest effect on alleviating AITDs among citrus flavonoids. Tangeretin modulated IL‐ 17 signaling pathway to prevent AITDs, and reduced NaI‐ induced thyroid damage in AITDs mouse model.
