CYCLOSPORIN A ACTIVATES TGF-/SMAD SIGNALING PATHWAY IN RAT LIVER [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Azhar Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2014
Cyclosporin A (CsA) is one of the most important immunosuppressive agents and therefore is widely used in organ transplantation. However, the clinical use of CsA is strongly limited by several side effects including hepatotoxicity which remains a major ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Cinnamophilin ameliorates testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia and fibrosis by regulating 5α-reductase and TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences
Objective(s): Androgen and TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathways play important roles in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), fibrosis, and the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Cinnamophilin is extracted from Cinnamomum philippinense.

Astrocytic LMP2 Coordinates NF‐κB and TGF‐β1/Smad3 Signaling to Drive Neuroinflammation after Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Astrocyte reactivity critically shapes neuroinflammatory outcomes after ischemic stroke, yet the upstream regulators governing astrocyte state transitions remain incompletely defined. Here, we identify the immunoproteasome subunit low molecular weight protein 2 (LMP2) as an important modulator of astrocyte functional remodeling following ...

Transcriptional Control by the SMADs [PDF]

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Biology, 2016
The transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family of ligands elicit their biological effects by initiating new programs of gene expression. The best understood signal transducers for these ligands are the SMADs, which essentially act as transcription factors that are activated in the cytoplasm and then accumulate in the nucleus in response to ligand ...

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Cholesterol‐Mediated Metabolic‐mechanotransductive Crosstalk Orchestrates Castration Resistance in Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Full androgen deprivation (FAD) induces paracrine cholesterol in prostate cancer that drives the polarization of cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and subsequent elevated matrix stiffness. Matrix stiffness in turn potentiates tumor cell survival under FAD pressure via dual mechanotransductive activation of the IRE1α‐XBP1s stress‐response axis ...

Anti-fibrotic Effects of Synthetic Oligodeoxynucleotide for TGF-β1 and Smad in an Animal Model of Liver Cirrhosis

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2017
Liver fibrosis is characterized by changes in tissue architecture and extracellular matrix composition. Liver fibrosis affects not only hepatocytes but also the non-parenchymal cells such as hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which are essential for ...
