RNA polymerase backtracking results in the accumulation of fission yeast condensin at active genes
Using both experiments and mathematical modelling, the authors show that RNA polymerase backtracking contributes to the accumulation of condensin in the termination zone of active genes.

This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Structural insights into DNA loop extrusion by SMC protein complexes
Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) protein complexes play key roles in the three-dimensional organization of genomes in all kingdoms of life. Recent insights from chromosome contact mapping experiments and single-molecule imaging assays suggest that these complexes achieve distinct cellular functions by extruding large loops of DNA while they ...

We introduce a new fabrication method that overcomes the current limitation of tubular gap electrospinning. We successfully fabricated a seamless hollow tube with fibers aligned along the longitudinal axis in diameters as small as 300 µm, and then reinforced it using 4‐axis 3D printing.

Architecture of SMC-kleisin complexes

Electrically Tunable Heliconical Smectic Superstructure in Polar Fluids
Strong dipole–dipole interactions give rise to an emergent polar smectic phase with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. This resulting polar heliconical smectic superstructure enables novel functionalities in polar fluids, such as color modulation driven by electric field strength and frequency, as well as second‐harmonic generation amplification ...

TGFβ1-induced Baf60c regulates both smooth muscle cell commitment and quiescence.
Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) play critical roles in a number of diseases; however, the molecular mechanism underlying their development is unclear. Although the role of TGFβ1 signaling in SMC development is well established, the downstream molecular ...

Genetic interaction of the SMC complex with topoisomerase IV in Bacillus subtilis [PDF]
The role of topoisomerase IV (Topo IV) and of the structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) complex in chromosome compaction and in global protein synthesis was investigated. Lowering of the levels of Topo IV led to chromosome decondensation, while overproduction induced chromosome hyper-compaction, showing that Topo IV has an influence on the ...

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.
