Due to varying amounts of phytochemical constituents, diverse food waste have shown to differentially mediate the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles with unique physicochemical properties and antimicrobial performance. In this study, raspberry pomace (RP) amongst other waste produces well‐dispersed nanoparticles with superior overall activity against food ...

The predatory behavior of ants: an impressive panoply of morphological adaptations
This review focuses on predation in ants, showing the wide diversity of cases from solitary foraging to group hunting tactics, as well as the evolution of mandible shape frequently adapted to capture specific prey. Although most ants are generalist feeders, finding their sugary substances directly on plants or indirectly via sap‐sucking insects, some ...

Bacterial pathogens colonise woody hosts by integrating metabolic adaptation, effector‐mediated immune suppression, cell wall remodelling and EPS‐ and toxin‐supported persistence. ABSTRACT Bacterial pathogens of woody plants represent a pervasive yet underexplored threat to global agriculture and forestry, causing devastating diseases in fruit trees ...

Characterization of Pectobacterium carotovorum causing a new soft rot disease on okra in Malaysia [PDF]
Dark brown, necrotic pods with extensive water-soaked lesions caused by plant pathogenic bacteria were found on okra plants in different fields in Malaysia in 2010. PCR amplification of the pectate lyase (pel) gene and amplification of the 16S–23S rRNA (ITS) with G1 and L1 primers produced 434-, 535- and 570-bp fragments, respectively.

A newly identified virulence family from Pectobacterium parvum that binds plant defensive compounds (e.g., solanidine) with high affinity enhances bacterial tolerance and is required for full virulence. This trade‐off between defence and growth reveals a key host‐adaptation strategy.

When a plant is infected by a pathogen, endogenous immune responses are initiated. When the initiation of these defense responses is induced by a pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) of a pathogen, it is called PAMP-triggered immunity (PTI ...

Exploring Costa Rica's fungal trends: Insights from digitized specimens
Fungi are essential to tropical ecosystems but remain largely absent from conservation agendas. By analyzing over 78,000 fungal records from Costa Rica—a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot—this study reveals key patterns in fungal diversity, distribution, and seasonality.
