Prescribing Patterns in Pediatric Hidradenitis Suppurativa

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory skin condition increasingly diagnosed in pediatric populations; however, data on treatment practices in this group remains limited. In this retrospective study of 163 patients diagnosed with HS ≤ 18 years of age, we found that treatment patterns varied significantly by disease severity.

Efficacy of low dose spironolactone in chronic kidney disease with resistant hypertension

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2011
To determine the antihypertensive benefit of adding low dose sprinolactone to multi-drug regimens that included a diuretic, a calcium channel blocker and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or angiotensin receptor blocker in patients with moderately ...

Racial Differences in Dermatologic Treatment for Adolescents With PCOS‐Related Acne Vulgaris

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women, with acne frequently appearing during adolescence. Racial and ethnic disparities in PCOS phenotype and adult acne treatment are well documented, yet differences in acne management among adolescents with PCOS remain unclear.

Treatment Patterns in Pediatric Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Time to Treatment Initiation, Initial Treatment, and Time to Switching

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) causes significant morbidity in children. Treatment patterns across sex, race, and ethnicity in pediatric HS have not been thoroughly evaluated. We aim to characterize treatment patterns in pediatric HS, including (1) time to treatment initiation, (2) first prescribed HS treatment, and (3) time to ...

RAD51 and RAD51 paralog inhibition sensitizes nonreplicating quiescent keratinocytes to UV radiation

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
UV radiation and other compounds generate DNA adducts that block transcription and induce cell death if not removed by the nucleotide excision repair system. In this work, we used a small‐scale pharmacological screen to discover that inhibition of the recombinase RAD51 sensitized nonreplicating quiescent keratinocytes to both UVR and other agents that ...

Caenorhabditis elegans as an in vivo model system for human inherited primary arrhythmia syndromes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Most genes involved in inherited primary arrhythmia syndromes (IPAS) are conserved in Caenorhabditis elegans, where genetic manipulation enables functional characterization of variants, identification of regulatory proteins, and in vivo drug testing.

The Aldosterone Blockade for Health Improvement Evaluation in End-Stage Renal Disease (ACHIEVE) Trial: Rationale and Clinical Research Protocol

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease
Background: The mineralocorticoid aldosterone may contribute to the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients receiving maintenance dialysis. Whether spironolactone, a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, improves outcomes for patients
