Squalene epoxidase (SE) gene related to triterpenoid biosynthesis assists to select elite genotypes in medicinal plant: Cyclocarya paliurus (Batal.) Iljinskaja.

Plant physiology and biochemistry : PPB, 2023
Triterpenoids, known for their anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and hypoglycemic properties, are the major bioactive components in Cyclocarya paliurus (Batal.) Iljinskaja.

Mining and modification of Oryza sativa-derived squalene epoxidase for improved β-amyrin production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Journal of Biotechnology, 2023
β-Amyrin is a pentacyclic triterpenoid and has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. The synthetic pathway of β-amyrin has been analyzed and its heterogeneous synthesis has been achieved in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Computational Exploration of Antifungal plant Compounds as Inhibitors of Squalene Epoxidase in Terbinafine-Resistant Trichophyton rubrum

International Journal of Emerging Knowledge Studies
Dermatophytes, a group of keratinophilic fungi, are the primary causative agents of superficial skin infections, affecting an estimated 20–25% of the global population.

Squalene epoxidase as the target of antifungal allylamines

Pesticide Science, 1987
AbstractThe allylamine clinical antifungals naftifine and terbinafine inhibit ergosterol biosynthesis at the point of squalene epoxidation in a range of fungi pathogenic to man. Filamentous growth is particularly susceptible to this inhibition, cell death occurring at drug concentrations causing only partial inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis ...

Ellagitannins and Hexahydroxydiphenoyl Esters as Inhibitors of Vertebrate Squalene Epoxidase

Journal of Natural Products, 2001
Ellagitannins isolated from various plant sources as well as newly synthesized n-alkyl (C(1)-C(18)) esters of hexahydroxydiphenyl (HHDP) dicarboxylic acid were evaluated as enzyme inhibitors of recombinant rat squalene epoxidase, a rate-limiting enzyme of cholesterol biosynthesis.

Reengineering the Substrate Tunnel to Enhance the Catalytic Efficiency of Squalene Epoxidase.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry
Squalene epoxidase plays a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, its derivatives, and other triterpenoid compounds by catalyzing the transformation of squalene into 2,3-oxidosqualene.

Squalene Epoxidase — Enzymology and Inhibition

1990
Squalene occupies a key position in the biosynthetic sequence from acetate to ergosterol (Fig. 1), being the first lipophilic intermediate in the pathway. The conversion of this 30-carbon hydrocarbon to the tetracyclic lanosterol structure was originally thought to occur in one step without intermediates.

Purification of squalene epoxidase from rat liver microsomes

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1980
Abstract Squalene epoxidase was purified from rat liver microsomes by DEAE-cellulose, alumina C ν gel, hydroxylapatite, CM-Sephadex C-50 and Cibacron Blue Sepharose 4B in the presence of Triton X-100. The specific activity was increased 50 fold with a yield of about 10%.

Increased terbinafine resistance among clinical genotypes of Trichophyton mentagrophytes/T. interdigitale species complex harboring squalene epoxidase gene mutations.

Journal de Mycologie Médicale
Terbinafine resistance has become epidemic as an emerging problem in treatment of dermatohpytosis. This could be attributed in part to a point mutation in the squalene epoxidase (SQLE) gene. In this study, point mutations in the SQLE gene were studied in
