Dental development in the tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus) and the evolution of vertebrate dentitions

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dentitions have diversified enormously during vertebrate evolution, involving reductions, modifications, or allocations to prey seizing and processing regions. A combination of ancient and novel features related to dental and oropharyngeal apparatuses is found in extant lineages of non‐teleost fishes, such as the gars.

Depletion of SHANK2 inhibited the osteo/dentinogenic differentiation potentials of stem cells from apical papilla.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 2017
The aim of this study was to investigate the biological function of SHANK2 on the osteo/dentinogenic differentiation potentials of human stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs). Real-time RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of SHANK2 in human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Small hairpin RNA (shRNA) was used to knockdown the SHANK2 in SCAPs.

Potential of resveratrol in enrichment of neural progenitor-like cell induction of human stem cells from apical papilla

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2020
Introduction Stem cell transplantation of exogenous neural progenitor cells (NPCs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has emerged as a promising approach for neurodegenerative disease.

Macroscopic, Histological and Ultrastructural Features of the Tongue of the Anatolian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa libycus)

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
Integrated macroscopic, histological, and ultrastructural analyses revealed five distinct lingual papillae types (filiform, fungiform, conical, foliate, and vallate) in the Anatolian wild boar (Sus scrofa libycus). Mechanical papillae showed marked structural specialization, while gustatory papillae exhibited region‐specific distribution of taste buds.

Some new additions to the hepatic flora (Jungermanniophyta) for the State of Bahia, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In this paper are recorded 18 taxa of hepatics (Jungermanniophyta) for the first time for the state of Bahia, Brazil. Of these, Harpalejeunea ovata (Hook.) Schiffn. is new for Brazil. Morphological characters, notes on habitat and substrate are given for

The influence of flap design on the relevance of biomaterials in regenerative periodontal surgery

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The aim of this systematic review was to explore whether the benefits of biomaterials in periodontal regenerative/reconstructive surgery are affected by the type of flap employed. The study addresses the existing gap in the evidence to substantiate the beneficial effect of minimal invasive periodontal surgical approach compared to a

Effect of bFGF on the growth and matrix turnover of stem cells from human apical papilla: Role of MEK/ERK signaling

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2020
Background/Purpose: Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) exhibits multiple biological functions in various tissues. Stem cells from apical papilla (SCAP) can be isolated from human apical papilla tissues in developmental teeth of children.
