A Noncanonical Protein Degradation Pathway That Regulates Germ Cell Maintenance

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
SENP8 regulates a non‐canonical NEDD8‐dependent pathway to stabilize STAT1, promote CCL2/CCL5 transcription, and maintain germ cell proliferation and migration.

Endocrine Disrupters, Steroidogenesis and Inflammation

open access: yes, 2007
During the past decade, considerable information concerning the effects of endocrine disrupters (EDCs) on animals and humans has been accumulated. These compounds of anthropogenic or natural origin mimic the action of sex hormones, thus disturbing the ...

From hepatic to hematopoietic: LRH‐1's expanding cellular repertoire to the immune system

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The nuclear receptor LRH‐1 is a well‐characterized regulator of endodermal tissue. Yet, increasing evidence indicates that LRH‐1, although expressed at low levels, is also a critical regulator of the hematopoietic system. LRH‐1 regulates the immune system by contributing to immune cell‐specific functions.

Nitric oxide inhibits leydig cell steroidogenesis

open access: yes, 1996
Testicular macrophages as well as endothelial cells, which are intimately associated with Leydig cells, constitute a potential source of paracrine nitric oxide (NO) in the testis.

Recent advances in polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, formerly polycystic ovary syndrome, with emphasis on endocrine and metabolic dysfunction and cardiovascular risk

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome, affects 10%–13% of women of reproductive age and remains underdiagnosed despite its substantial health burden. The introduction of the new PMOS nomenclature in 2026 reflects a fundamental shift in understanding the condition as a lifelong endocrine ...

Corticotropin receptors, cyclic AMP and steroidogenesis

open access: yes, 1984
The detection and characterization of the physiologically relevant receptors for corticotropin (ACTH) in rat adrenocortical cells is described. By the use of a radioligand with full biological potency and high specific radioactivity (1800+75 Ci/mmol), a ...

Leptin–cholesterol crosstalk in pregnancy: Mechanistic implications for placental function and cardiometabolic programming

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Pregnancy requires the coordinated maternal reorganization of lipid and endocrine pathways to sustain fetal growth and anticipate neonatal nutrition. Leptin, produced by adipose tissue and the placenta, acts as an integrative signal linking maternal energy status with trophoblast function and vascular adaptation, while cholesterol provides ...

Ovariectomy, but not moderate intermittent hypoxia, promotes respiratory instability and risk of obesity in adult female rats

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Sleep apnoea (SA) is a prevalent and complex respiratory disorder associated with recurrent interruptions of air flow during sleep. SA causes sleep fragmentation and intermittent hypoxia which leads to numerous negative health consequences.

Physiological and anatomical determinants of placental drug transfer

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Fetal exposure to pharmaceuticals and their subsequent clearance back to the maternal circulation are governed by placental transfer. Passive diffusion down a maternal‐to‐fetal concentration gradient is the primary route of fetal drug exposure, with specific compounds undergoing transporter‐mediated transfer.

The Mycorrhizal Fungal Species Funneliformis mosseae Reshapes Rhizosphere Microbial Metabolic Pathways of Soybeans Under Tetracycline Stress

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
The presence of residual antibiotics (tetracycline) poses a threat to food safety in the black soils of northeastern China and a mycorrhizal fungal species Funneliformis mosseae could mitigate the negative effects. This study tracked the changes in soybeans' rhizospheric microbial profiles and the associated metabolites during the bioremediation ...
