A Comparison of Unbleached Pulps from Cherry Heartwood and Sapwood [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
The purpose of the project was to evaluate pulps made from cherry heartwood and sapwood. The amount of heartwood a tree has is an individual trait of the tree rather than a function of geography or environment.

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Effect of piceatannol-rich passion fruit seed extract on human glyoxalase I–mediated cancer cell growth

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2019
Passion fruit seed extract (PFSE), a product rich in stilbenes such as piceatannol and scirpusin B, has various physiological effects. It is unclear whether PFSE and its stilbene derivatives inhibit cancer cell proliferation via human glyoxalase I (GLO I)

Stimuli‐Responsive Supramolecular Biomaterials for Cancer Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ultimate goal of cancer theranostics is to get imaging agents and therapeutic cargo to tumor sites when and where they are required. “Smart” systems should be developed. This review discusses the characteristics of physiological stimuli, types and action modes of external stimuli, construction approaches and working principles, as well as ...

Structure‐Function Integration in 2D Hybrid Perovskite for Fast Neutron and Gamma Ray Discrimination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using an in situ seed‐assisted cooling method, large (28 × 7 × 3 mm3) (GABA)2PbBr4 single crystals are grown, featuring hydrogen‐rich organic layers and a dense PbBr4 framework. This architecture enables efficient γ‐ray absorption, fast‐neutron sensitivity, and clear n/γ pulse‐shape discrimination (FOM up to 1.74), highlighting its potential as a ...

The Interplay Between Autophagy and Apoptosis in the Mechanisms of Action of Stilbenes in Cancer Cells

open access: yesAntioxidants
Plant-based stilbenes are low-molecular-weight polyphenolic compounds that exhibit anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, and anti-cancer activities.

Resveratrol, ε-Viniferin, and Vitisin B from Vine: Comparison of Their In Vitro Antioxidant Activities and Study of Their Interactions

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The control of oxidative stress with natural active substances could limit the development of numerous pathologies. Our objective was to study the antiradical effects of resveratrol (RSV), ε-viniferin (VNF), and vitisin B (VB) alone or in combination ...

Callus Induction and Cellular Suspensions from Murtilla (Ugni molinae Turcz.) for trans-resveratrol Production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The present study reports for the first time the quantification of resveratrol and the use of biotechnological techniques applied to stilbene productions in species from genus Ugni and calli production from adult explants (fruits).

Effect of the Sequential Inoculation of Non-Saccharomyces/Saccharomyces on the Anthocyans and Stilbenes Composition of Tempranillo Wines

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
The phenolic compounds of red wines are responsible for their color, astringency, and antioxidant properties. The fermentative yeasts might be used to modulate wines in terms of their color, aroma and probably healthy properties.

TTAS a new stilbene derivative that induces apoptosis in Leishmania infantum. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Leishmania parasites are able to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death), similarly to mammalian cells. Recently it was demonstrated in vitro the anti-leishmanial effect of some natural and synthetic stilbenoids including resveratrol and piceatannol ...
