Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cathepsin B prevents cell death by fragmentation and destruction of pathological amyloid fibrils

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Amyloid fibrils cause organ and tissue dysfunction in numerous severe diseases. Despite the prevalence and severity of amyloidoses, there is still no effective and safe anti-amyloid therapy.

A Complex Investigation of LATP Ceramic Stability and LATP+PVDF Composite Membrane Performance: The Effect of Solvent in Tape-Casting Fabrication

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
Redox flow batteries (RFBs) are a prospective energy storage platform to mitigate the discrepancy between barely adjustable energy production and fluctuating demand.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Defining the Structural Stability Field of Disordered Fluorite Oxides

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
Fluorite-structured oxides constitute an important class of materials for energy technologies. Despite their high level of structural symmetry and simplicity, these materials can accommodate atomic disorder without losing crystallinity, making them ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

A review of recent advances in permeable pipe pile

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2017
Soil compaction in the process of pile driving has always plagued engineers. How to speed up the dissipation of excess pore water pressure during the pile driving is the current research focus.

Stability of trusses by graphic statics

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2021
This paper presents a graphical method for determining the linearized stiffness and stability of prestressed trusses consisting of rigid bars connected at pinned joints and which possess kinematic freedoms.
