Based on previous evidence that the non-steroidal estrogen receptor modulator STX mitigates the effects of neurotoxic Amyloid-β (Aβ) in vitro, we have evaluated its neuroprotective benefits in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Neutralizing activity of anti-Stx IgY. [PDF]
(A) hpStx-1, (B) hpStx-2 and (C) hpStx-2A1B were mixed with serial dilutions of anti-Stx-1 IgY and anti-Stx-2 IgY, and incubated for 1 h at 37°C. The mixture was subjected to the cytotoxicity assay.

Primary Human Colon Epithelial Cells (pHCoEpiCs) Do Express the Shiga Toxin (Stx) Receptor Glycosphingolipids Gb3Cer and Gb4Cer and Are Largely Refractory but Not Resistant towards Stx [PDF]
Shiga toxin (Stx) is released by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) into the human intestinal lumen and transferred across the colon epithelium to the circulation.

In Vivo Transduction of an Stx-Encoding Phage in Ruminants [PDF]
ABSTRACTWe assessed the ability of a kanamycin-marked Stx phage to move into a commensal, ovineEscherichia colistrain in the ruminant gastrointestinal tract. Transduction was detected in 19/24 sheep tested, resulting in the recovery of 47 transductants.

Effect of anti-Stx IgY given via different routes from Stx on mortality of mice. [PDF]
(A) ppStx-1 (2.5 times LD50) and (B) ppStx-2 (2 times LD50) were administered i.p. to ddY mice. Anti-Stx-1 IgY and anti-Stx-2 IgY were given i.v. at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg at 10 min before challenge. Control mice were given PBS instead of anti-Stx IgY.
